Elisabeth Naughton's new steamy romantic suspense novel brings a spy in from the cold and sets her heart ablaze. Learn more.

Book Description

When her twin sister dies of a mysterious heart condition, Riley King is sent to her grandma’s ranch. But instead of the isolation she’s been aching for, she learns of a family secret that’s been deliberately kept from her, until now.

As if finding out she’s actually a leopard wasn't enough shock for one vacation, Riley meets Hunter Logan … the guy she’s promised to. For life. But Riley has no intention of being told what to do by anyone, certainly not some stubborn, dominant shifter. Even if he can make her purr, her claws are slicing out. Until Riley realizes that not fulfilling her destiny would commit her sister to a life on the other side without her.

"Loved this. Time flew as I read this, and it left me wanting more of the same. Kind of Twilight-y, yet not." -5 Star Amazon review

I downloaded this, despite it being aimed at a YA audience, as it was a freebie. I turned out to be one of the best tales I've read in a while, and whilst I've a child of the target age of this novel, I didn't feel as if I was too old for this.

It's a blend of the supernatural and the paranormal, with a young girl, Riley, who's just lost her twin, going to stay with her gran for a bit, to try to get over her loss and grief. Whilst she's there, she learns that though her parents are human, she's of leopard-shifter ancestry, and she also meets Hunter, main male of the pack, who's apparently her destined mate. Oh, and her gran just happens to be the matriarch of the pack and beyond, and she's to take over that role some day.

So, it's a lot for her to take in at only 17, and still reeling from the death of her twin, but with the help of Hunter, and the mysterious magic of their race, she begins to heal, to accept her future and destiny, she falls in love, and embraces her new life, new role and destiny.

At times, the innocence of the love affair, Hunter's gentleness and protectiveness, and his determination not to rush her, harm or compromise her, or sway her into becoming his mate, made him seem very much like Edward Cullen, but Riley had more backbone and was more independent-thinking than Ms Swan. I like that they didn't just fall into bed, or fall into 'I love you' too soon, and when the admission of love on her part did come, the timing and importance to an event in the tale, were 100% spot-on.

This did have an epilogue, and it was decent, but the tale left me wanting more, it was that good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Twilight with a small twist February 13, 2013
By CEMommy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked this book for the most part. The ending was a bit confusing as far as the action went. It wasn't really clear on who was doing what and why. Also, there were several plot holes in the story, the biggest one is why her grandmother had to hand over the reins of the pack leadership to her. She just barely made her change and now everyone wanted her to lead them. All because she was "younger". What youth had to do with it wasn't made clear. Seems to me that age and experience would be more beneficial in the war that was coming as opposed to youth and inexperience. However, despite the plot holes the book kept me entertained. Mostly because of the world building. It was interesting. For that I give it 3 stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars The wardrobe stayed close... August 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I was so happy to hear from Soraya Lane that I was the winner of her blog tour giveaway ^^ But (you could hear this one coming, right?) But I'm sorry to say that this story wasn't meant for me. I didn't like it as much as I thought I would. The most important element was missing in the story. A must have for me to enjoy a story: the ability to bring the story alive. It remained "flat." Every time I read a story, it becomes a 3D movie in my head. I create my own world. I see everything that happens, I can picture how everyone looks and, most important of all: I create a bond with the characters (the one I like, at least ;) ). This 3D effect was missing. I wasn't able to travel to the wondrous world of Change. No movie means no pictures and no bond. Which leads to a not so entertaining story and in my eyes a lack of connection between the scenes. And I sincerely looked forward to reading this story... What a letdown...

Furthermore I had a bit of trouble with the speed between the events. Day 1: A forlorn Riley mourns her sister's death and meets Hunter. Day 2: After she met Hunter and became a Leopard the sorrow for her sister is a blip on her mind. Day 3: Why was she mourning?
If your twin sister, with whom you had an incredibly connection, dies and you're mourning, it's just not possible to just forget about the whole ordeal. And this was before she found out about her sister... And then there's the speed with which Riley seems to make life changing decisions. It's okay to sleep a night on it, it won't go away and you've still got some time to answer the question. Some decisions shouldn't be made with the feelings you feel at the moment... Especially if you still have doubts...

3.0 out of 5 stars Liked it at first June 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
It was good at first, with an interesting story and characters, but then the story just became repetitive "loves me, loves me not? " every page. It lacked momentum and outside drama (besides the couple) except for a brief scuffle with the baddies. Also, in the last quarter of the book i noticed a lot of spelling errors and misused words (lease instead of least). I am not sure if the beginning had many, it didn't seem to pop at me the way the end ones did.

I read reviews thinking this was a shifter version of twilight.... while I don't think twilight is a great literary accomplishment I don't hate it either.... this was 8 steps down from twilight. Boring forced dialogue. Zero character development or connection. Just plain boring. So mad I wasted my time and money on this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet February 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Typical young adult fantasy novel, and well-written. I could barely put it down and finished the book in one sitting. I would have liked the author to change up the perspectives more, instead of relying on Riley's most of the time.

However, I think it could have used another editing session as there were typos throughout.

I want to continue this series and look forward to the author's next installment!
