Book Description

2010
Welcome to "Big Health," the idea that individual, social and environmental health are complementary reflections of one another. If we change one part of this relationship, for better or worse, we change the other parts as well. Today we see an urgent need for a new kind of health orientation, one that's more inclusive and consistent with our radically interconnected and endangered world. Change your Body, Change the World will give you a fresh perspective on the human predicament and new ideas for health with meaning.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterful Look at Why Movement Matters September 16, 2010
Format:Paperback
Frank Forencich is on fire. I've followed his evolution over the past several years, since I interviewed him for a book I wrote on balance. This is his third book and in it he continues to build the case, through solid evidence-based research, personal insights, and a gift for storytelling, that many of our culture's problems can be mitigated by paying attention to playful, tribal, physical movement. Frank has enormous reserves of energy. While other visionaries sit on the sidelines of mainstream health and fitness, Frank jumps, skips, squats, leaps, and kicks, attracting attention to his fundamentally simple yet revolutionary ideas, which have the potential to help humans emerge from the deep hole we've dug for ourselves. He deserves a wide, international audience. If you've never read his essays before, this book would make a fine introduction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Frank Forencich Does It Again...Must Read September 19, 2010
Format:Paperback
Frank Forencich does a fantastic job extending the ideas he put forth in Exhuberant Animal (excellent book) by explaining that not only are our bodies and minds amazing and wonderous things that can bring us great joy, but in addition, that we are all connected and are strongly influenced by each other. He also reflects on how this collective "we" influences the health of the planet, and puts forth calls to action on how we can clean up our act and put a much more positive spin on the ball we are currently pitching.

Frank talks about how we have gone from the paleo age where our health problems were the result of having to do the rough business of the hunter gatherer, to the age of infectious disease where communicable diseases were serious issues, to the age where lifestyle diseases (heart disease, stroke, cancer) are at dangerous levels. This is but one example of the issues discussed in this book. At the heart of many of the issues discussed are cultural issues that all of us can help change. Frank gives us ideas on steps we can take to not only improve our own health, but the well being of the big blue ball we live on.

I enjoy Frank's writing style, as it is both informative and entertaining, and I recommend this book to all those who want a healthier and happier world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent book by Frank Forencich September 6, 2010
Format:Paperback
Frank Forencich writes with intelligence, humor and insight about how we can take responsibility for our own health and, in turn, affect others in a positive way. It will change the way you think about fitness, health, nutrition and the world around us. 5.0 out of 5 stars The Blinders are Off! October 17, 2011
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Frank Forencich has written a landmark book, in my eyes. NO one before has discussed the combination of ideas present in this book so vividly. From the disconnect between our bodies, our health and the modern world; to the obvious yet overlooked connections we all have with one another...Frank has inspired me and others to take a deep look into the culture we live in and ask the question - Is this the best we can do?

But this book is not just your typical indictment of modern culture. It actually outlines practical paths to change. And that's what makes this a seminal work. I highly recommend that anyone who cares about health, movement, or just the experience of life read this book. Then read it again. Then put it down and read it again in a couple of months.

5.0 out of 5 stars A thoughtful read, very highly recommended November 8, 2010
Format:Paperback
Disease is contagious, but so is health as well. "Change Your Body, Change the World: Reflections on Health and the Human Predicament" is a discussion of how the individual's health is important for the world as a whole as the social creature of humanity. With plenty of thought and opinion on health as a whole, "Change Your Body, Change the World" is a thoughtful read, very highly recommended.

I fell in love with Frank's work when I read his first book, Play as if Your Life Depends On It. Each subsequent book, blog, tweet, and workshop has only impressed me, inspired me, and educated me more. (Exuberant Animal is brilliant.) He's such graceful, intelligent, exuberant animal himself, practicing what he preaches and offering us truly ORIGINAL ways to understand our bodies, the world, and the relationship between the two! If you care about health and fitness, Change Your Body, Change the World will change your mind, change the way you play, and change your outlook on life.
