About the Author

Daniel G. Amen, M.D. is a child and adult psychiatrist, brain imaging specialist, and the medical director of Amen Clinics, Inc. He oversees four clinics, respectively located in Newport Beach and Fairfield, California; Tacoma, Washington; and Reston, Virginia. Dr. Amen is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, as well as a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Amen is a nationally recognized expert in the fields of the brain and behavior and brain imaging. He has pioneered the use of brain imaging in clinical psychiatric practice, and his clinics have the world's largest database of functional brain scans for neuropsychiatry.

More About the Author

Dr. Amen is a physician, double board certified psychiatrist, teacher and eight time New York Times bestselling author. He is widely regarded as one of the world's foremost experts on applying brain imaging science to everyday clinical practice. Dr. Amen is the Founder and Medical Director of Amen Clinics in Newport Beach and San Francisco, California, Bellevue, Washington, Reston, Virginia, Atlanta and New York City.

Amen Clinics have the world's largest database of functional brain scans relating to behavior, totaling more than 77,000 scans on patients from 90 countries.

Dr. Amen is a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and is the lead researcher on the world's largest brain imaging and rehabilitation study on professional football players. His research has not only demonstrated high levels of brain damage in players, he also showed the possibility of significant recovery for many with the principles that underlie his work.

Together with Pastor Rick Warren and Drs. Mark Hyman and Mehmet Oz, Dr. Amen is also one of the chief architects on Saddleback Church's "Daniel Plan," a 52 week program to get the world healthy through religious organizations. After the first year the church lost 260,000 pounds, but weight loss was only one of the stunning side effects of getting truly healthy. Other common effects of The Daniel Plan were increased energy, better focus and mood, and a reduction of many medications for the participants. The Daniel Plan is now being exported around the world to help churches, synagogues and all religious people get healthy.

Dr. Amen is also the host of 7 popular shows about the brain, which have raised more than 44 million dollars for public television.

Dr. Amen is the author of 52 professional articles, five book chapters, and over 30 books, including eight New York Times bestsellers, including Change Your Brain, Change Your Life, Magnificent Mind At Any Age, Change Your Brain, Change Your Body, and Use Your Brain to Change Your Age. In February 2013, Crown will publish Dr. Amen's upcoming book, Unleash the Power of the Female Brain.

A small sample of the organizations Dr. Amen has spoken for include: the National Security Agency (NSA), the National Science Foundation (NSF), Harvard's Learning and the Brain Conference, Franklin Covey, The Million Dollar Roundtable, Retired NFL Players Summit, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges and the Supreme Courts of Delaware, Ohio and Wyoming. Dr. Amen's work has been featured in Newsweek, Time, Parade Magazine, New York Times Magazine, Washington Post, LA Times, Men's Health, and Cosmopolitan.

Dr. Amen is married to Tana, the father of four children, grandfather to Elias, Julian, Angelina, Emmy and Liam. He is an avid table tennis player.

This is a fantastic cookbook! The recipes are delicious and healthy. Once you stock up on the healthy ingredients you can make many of these dishes over and over again and come up with a great weekly meal menu. Dr. Amen puts his Brain Healthy spin on some common ingredients and enlightens your thought process to think about what you are putting into your body WILL affect how your brain functions. Making the brain - body connection has been a life saver in my household. If you want a healthier you and a healthier family I would recommend this cookbook more than any other out there!

I perused Change Your Brain, Change Your Body Cookbook at my local bn and found it to be really pretty but not up to what I was hoping for. It lists 50 brain boosters such as salmon and almonds and then has recipes that include those brain boosters with notations on the recipe as to how many brain boosters it has. these 50 superfoods are also listed on his website which you could look at for free and then apply this to any old cookbook. I much prefer the The Younger (Thinner) You Diet: How Understanding Your Brain Chemistry Can Help You Lose Weight, Reverse Aging, and Fight Disease that breaks it down to which neurotransmitters are being supported in each recipe as well as list of spices, herbs, foods, ingredients so that you can customize your own meals; in that book each menu is notated with whether it boosts GABA, dopamine, serotonin, or acetylcholine. This information helps you to boost the aspects of your brain that you want boosted and not possibly cause more of an inbalance to your neurotransmitter ratio levels by further stimulating those that are already too high in relation to the others. Change Your Brain, Change Your Body Cookbook is also one of the thinnest cookbooks I've held in years. However, Amen's cookbook is prettier with beautiful photos; I will pass on it though as I already know what is in this cookbook; if you want a basic beginning superfood cookbook, though, you might really enjoy this one. Ms. Amen looks like a gorgeous amazon woman so she must be doing something right with her fantastic genes.Read more ›

This book has changed my life. I have been a long time sufferer of IBS and Rosacea. I have tried several different kinds of medicine to manage it and nothing has worked as well as changing my eating habits. After reading this book and trying several of the recipes I have never felt better. I am off of all of my medication. Also from drinking the recommended water intake my Rosacea has improved tremendously. All in all it is a great find.

This cookbook has no index so it's difficult to find a recipe. It's arranged by body benefits instead of "Poultry, Vegetables, Breakfasts, etc." so it's next to impossible to find a recipe to try for dinner, for instance. There are very few recipes for the cost of the book and they use a LOT of ingredients I don't ordinarily have. There are a few appealing recipes that I'll try but this book was definitely not worth the purchase.

As part of our new commitment to eating healthy (non-processed foods) we picked up this cookbook. The recipes are easy to follow with amazing visuals. The variety of meals is great and I love all of the caloric info is at the bottom of each recipe. My only real complaint is there isn't an index in the back so finding a specific recipe can be difficult at times.

I sat and read it from cover to cover writing a grocery list for a whole foods grocery store so that i would have the items on hand. The pictures are encouraging and inviting! I am interested in doing most of the recipes. I find if I will start with these then I can adapt more recipes off these originals! I find that helpful! My only improvement would be an index in the back to find what I am looking for more readily. Other than that I find the book a wonderful help for starting to change my brain and my health!

Eating healthy is more important then we know. This is a super healthy eating cookbok. I have not tried all the recipes yet but the ones I have tried are good to very good. If you want a healthy body and brain and a GREAT price on this book buy it from Amazon! I went to Dr. Amen's seminar and they are much higher there or on his website. Great brains and great bodies start with healthy food!
