Book Description

Allen Klein, master of the right quote at the right moment, has gathered his favorite, most inspiring words of wisdom into this treasury of moving and meaningful sayings from around the world that incite readers to live life to the fullest. Readers can take this book on the go to get a quick shot of inspiration at any time, or they can select one quote every day for in-depth thought and meditation. The book’s small size makes it ideal to carry in a purse or a bag, or to keep by the computer for those moments of need. However readers choose to use these uplifting and inspiring quotes, they all have the potential to be life-changing. Kipling once said that words are "the most powerful drug used by mankind" — the words in this book are the prescription readers need to revise their lives. The book features a foreword by Jack Canfield, cocreator of the best-selling Chicken Soup for the Soul series.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

I have always admired Ritz Carlton hotels. Their service is impeccable. It wasn't until recently, however, that I found out why. Every employee carries a laminated card with the twenty “Ritz Carlton Basics” printed on it. Each day the manager urges the employees to emphasize one of them.

This book is like that card. It is filled with basic but profound thoughts which can change your life in the same way the Ritz Carlton Basics helps employee do a better job and provide superior customer service.

Each day you might want to select one quote, or more, from this book and focus on it, or them, to help you change and improve your life. You can carry the quote, or quotes, with you in your wallet or purse, post it on your refrigerator door, or keep it by your computer.

In addition to being an inspiration for yourself, the quotations in this book can also help motivate others. Use them in your newsletter, on your web site, or in your email.

However you choose to use these uplifting and inspiring quotes, I know that they will change your life if you take them to heart. Kipling once said that words are “the most powerful drug used by mankind.” May the words in this book be the prescription you have been looking for to change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diverse, focused. Unusual Collection February 21, 2001
Format:Hardcover
Another quote book. Ever since Bartlett developed his dictionary of quotations, we've had a fascination with words mouthed by others. Seeking succinct and clever ways to communicate our thoughts, we enjoy citing perspectives taken by others. The result of our penchant for quotes is one book after another of the utterances of the famous and near-famous.
What makes this compendium any different from the rest of the quote books clamoring for our attention? In my opinion, there are two distinctions. First, the book is organized into sections that reflect the philosophy of Allen Klein, the quote collector. In his view, people can change their lives by understanding the actions speak louder than words. Life change strategies comprise the rest of the table of contents: Alter your attitude, be grateful, believe in miracles, cultivate kindness and compassion, dream the impossible dream, embrace change, enjoy today, forget failure. The list, a good list, goes on. Under each piece of advice as a heading, the reader finds insightful, inspiring, and thought-provoking quotes.
Another difference I discovered was the source of the quotes. What a wide range of resources! Anonymous is there, of course, accompanied by Martha Washington, Zig Ziglar, Golda Meier, Izaak Walton, Oral Roberts, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Walt Whitman. You'll learn from Mark Twain, William Penn, Bennett Cerf, and Mother Teresa. Eleanor Roosevelt, Walt Disney, Barbara Bush, and Donald Trump join Goethe, Carl Sandburg, Truman Capote, and Susan B, Anthony. Howard Cosell, Chester Nimitz, George Burns shares his wisdom, along with Helen Hayes, Stephen King, Richard Bach, Brian Tracy, Pope John Paul II, and Martin Luther King, Jr. What a collection!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great collection March 1, 2002
By Shorty
Format:Hardcover
Since college I have begun a quote book of my own. I found quotes that were inspiring, romantic, and helped put an interesting spin on life and certain circumstances. I found this book, picked it up and had to buy it. There were just so many quotes that I liked and could identify with or aspire to, but I couldn't possibly copy all of them in my own quote book. So, this is a welcome addition to my fascination with quotes. And I really enjoy the fact that the quoted individuals range from Confucious to Joe Namath...it provides an interesting perspective.
If you enjoy reading tidbits on happiness, attitude, dreams, forgiveness, success, overcoming obstacles and more then this would be a book to pick up. Otherwise, leave it for someone else to appreciate.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Read, A Beautiful Book March 26, 2001
Format:Hardcover
I'm a sucker for collections of quotes, whether they're in books or on the web. And this collection is my favorite. It's divided into helpful sections (like Alter your attitude, Be grateful, and Cultivate kindess & compassion), and it has an index of sources. It draws from a wide variety of sources, but it is unfailingly friendly, inclusive, and inspiring. I read it myself, and I use it at the beginning of a training class I'm giving to a group of construction workers. (They love it, too, believe it or not.) It's a hardback book that is both substantial and beautiful. Buy it for yourself or give it as a gift. And remember, "No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care." (Don Swartz, p. 26)

5.0 out of 5 stars You can quote me on this! March 5, 2001
Format:Hardcover
I originally bought this book as a reference for my presentations. What I learned as I flipped through it, is that this book is also valuable as a tool for personal growth and encouragement! These quotes can give you a fresh perspective on a multitude of ideas. One of my favorites is in the "Let 'er rip" section.....after all (as found on p.87), "Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can." Danny Kaye. AMEN!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource for quote lovers August 10, 2006
By Patti
Format:Hardcover
This is one of those purchases where I really felt like I got my monies worth. I refer to the quotes within this book on a weekly basis as I offer a "final thought of inspiration" to my yoga students. Since my family is a group of bathroom readers, Ive also been thinking about doing a bathroom wall of quotes. This book offers a variety of quotes nicely arranged in categories. Great to sit, read and ponder!

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing very unique. December 23, 2012
By J. Ward
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The quotes were fine but things that are easily found in free quote collection websites. Based on the title I was expecting some additional insights from the author and not just a list of quotes. Also the formatting on the kindle version was not particularly good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just a matter of opinion
Not that interesting and is a bit boring. Not that great of a read for my age and experience level. It would be more useful for someone younger. It could be humorous.

I like aphorisms and short quotations. This book is more accessible than Bartlett's and I read it occasionally just for pleasure.
