3.0 out of 5 stars A good read from a great motivator
I enjoyed reading this book McKenna is great at motivating you to change your life and provides very common sense approaches working on you from the inside. It is not a great book that will radically change your life but it is a good book with good advice, it is a mixture of cognitive psychology and self hypnosis. Here are a couple of great quotes from the book:...

5.0 out of 5 stars Change Your Life in Seven Days, September 26, 2006
I have just read the two very different reviews currntly listed, and felt compelled to weigh in on the subject. But first a joke - How many psychiatrists does it take to change a lightbulb? Only one, but the lightbulb has got to want to change!

I came to this book and CD 9 months ago, having searched pretty much every source possible for help in balancing my life. I was determined to find an answer, and for me it found through Paul McKenna's book and CD. Five years of frustration was removed in one week - to my absolute and genuine amazement. I was skeptical to say the least, and even after my first week I was constantly checking in with myself to see how long the "cure" was last before I returned to my original (and unwanted) frame of mind.

It is coming up to a year now, and I am finally starting to believe in the power of hypnosis - if you want to change. I mean, why not? If you have created difficulties in your own mind, then surely you have the power to replace them with your own new ideas.

For me the bottom line is this - you get what you expect!

5.0 out of 5 stars Time To Re-Program Your Mind...., August 21, 2005
By
This review is from: Change Your Life in Seven Days: The World's Leading Hypnotist Shows You How (Hardcover)
I have the UK version of this book and I was originally attracted to it by the fact that it had a free mind-programming CD with it - I believe the US version has the same mind-programming session for download.

Anyway, I was absolutely fascinated with the prospect of having my mind programmed or being hypnotised.

So I left work early on a Friday, went to the bookstore and snapped up the book.

Well, I think the book is excellent.

Let's face it - the shelves are awash with books that profess to make your life better, but this one is very simple to follow and effective.

It is basically a neuro-linguistic programming book, although it never even goes near mentioning NLP or trying to explain it.

In essence, the author has taken the useful bits of all kinds of self-help and put it into one volume, designed to be read over a seven day period.

You are also meant to listen to the mind programming recording twice a day.

I found it helpful, relaxing and effective.

It also taught me techniques to change my state, such as the "confidence switch" - very useful to induce any state that you want with literally the click or at least touch of your fingers.

I think this book more than holds it's own next to the work of Tony Robbins any day of the week - and don't get me wrong - I like TR, but this is just so nice and straightforward.

The only thing I'd take slight issue with is the title.

You can start to change your life within the said seven days, but you'll want to keep using the featured techniques way beyond that.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can a Stage Hypnotist Actually Change Lives?, June 14, 2005
By

This review is from: Change Your Life in Seven Days: The World's Leading Hypnotist Shows You How (Hardcover)
A book from a stage hypnotist? I assumed it would be shallow and vague. I wasn't expecting much.

I changed my mind.

The book approaches life changes from a scientific (NLP) point of view -- the techniques presented are valid and rest on a sound theoretical foundation. Not at all what I expected from an entertainer and celebrity.

Along with the book comes a gem of a recording (download from the Internet ) -- far and away the best hypnosis recording I've ever, ever heard.

Will the book and its accompanying hypnotic session change lives? Taken seriously, the tools McKenna provides can't help but change lives.

If you're looking for serious help in creating serious changes in your life, look no further. Get the book today, use it, enjoy what happens next!

Five stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life change made possible, January 30, 2007
This review is from: Change Your Life in Seven Days: The World's Leading Hypnotist Shows You How (Hardcover)
I started to use a review title of "Life change made easy", but that just wouldn't be true really. You still have to work at it if you want to change your life. However, I did find this book to be both interesting and useful. It was interesting as it provided a different perspective on change than I had previously encountered and it was useful because you could actually try the different techniques to see if they work.

The author's use of imagining is very powerful and can be done with the book, however, you will probably have to read through the imaginations multiple times before you can actually do it effectively. When you can go through the process without interruption (to read the next step), you'll be amazed at how it impacts your sense of being.

I enjoyed the book and hope you will too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Do you REALLY want to change? Or are you looking for a quick fix??, February 19, 2008
This book is like every self-help book. Not in the sense that the material is the same, but it's a case of PUT IT INTO PRACTICE!
It's pretty simple - by following Paul's techniques I have found my confidence lift to great levels, I feel much better about myself, and I worry less about people's actions towards me.
About 6 months after I first read this book, I was having a hard time and found this book on my shelf and decided to read it for a second time. And low and behold!! I started doing the exercises again, and sure enough my confidence levels were raised again. It's all very well to READ these things, but if you don't take ACTION (and I mean CONSTANT action), then it's not going to work for you.
We are a society full of people looking for a quick fix - and there isn't one. MAKE AN EFFORT!! You'll be surprised what will happen!

5.0 out of 5 stars Profound changes are possible, September 28, 2006
By
Julian Perry (Nottingham, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was led to this book at a time when I needed to makes changes to support the way I was living and to find new options. I had seen some of Paul's recent TV programmes helping people to oiverocme phobias and simialr and as I passed a book stall it `grabbed' me.

While I used to enjoy his much earlier TV shows demonstrating the power of hypnosis, or more accurately the power of the unconscious mind, I did not accredit much value to that beyond entertainment and possibly helping a few. However in the intervening years, and no doubt as a consequence of his own sometimes difficult life experiences, McKenna has matured considerably and added a deeper insight and value to his work and understanding of the nature of mind and being.

This has paved the way to helping many who chose to make profound changes to their experience of Iife. His concept and approach find great resonance with the many `teachers' throughout history with regard to how we create our reality via our beliefs. I can think for one of the famous books written by `Seth' via Jane Roberts in the 70's that describes in such beautiful detail how we create our reality individually and collectively. In short your beliefs are the master filter that lets us choose and create from all sorts of possible realities - we are not just at the mercy of some given experience but truly masters of our own experience. The trouble is most of humanity have no ideas how the process of reality creation occurs and how to impact upon it or change it.

Paul's book is a user friendly approach to this process and reading his book, and listening to the wonderful CD, are very powerful tools to make such self directed changes. If yuo believe it can work then it will, if you have an entrenched belief that this is not possible, then in keeping with the principles it won't - which just goers to show me even more that it does! Writing out ones life goals as part of one of the chapters is another very powerful tool to start to see and experience the changes you want. A 5 year plan is your own statement of focus and intention.

If we can get away for the slight apprehension around the term `hypnosis' as something that will subvert our will in favour of another's, then we can actually do an enormous amount of good to self and others using these techniques. If our intention is pure so will be out outcomes. No one argues on the benefits of electricity but that can harm if missapplied. So be careful what you ask for with these techniques for you will surely be given what you seek! Both `positive' and `negative'.

Well done McKenna for your wonderful, positive, empowering gift to help mankind when perhaps he needs more than ever to figure out how to create a more positive, loving, meaningful and enjoyable existence for himself and the world at large.

I most strongly recommend this book to those who strongly wish to make some significant changes in their life and who dare to!

Julian

5.0 out of 5 stars Helping you change the only way change happens - from the inside, July 19, 2006
This review is from: Change Your Life in Seven Days: The World's Leading Hypnotist Shows You How (Hardcover)
If you know anything about the workings of the subconscious mind, you will know by the end of the first chapter of this book that McKenna knows what he's doing. Any lingering doubts will be totally erased after you've downloaded and listened to his extraordinarily effective 28-minute (FREE!) trance induction. This recording alone is worth the price of the book.

Another reviewer has panned both versions of this title because of claims that McKenna is a fraud and his techniques are dangerous. As to the charges of fraud, I don't know about the details, but after reading his book I can tell you (based on 30 years' worth of independent study of the subconscious, hypnosis and psychology) that Paul McKenna is the real deal. I don't have a piece of paper from Hahvahd either -- does that mean I can't help people with what I've learned on my own from study, observation and practice? (And by the way, yes, I do have an authentic college degree, from an accredited school -- talk about a money-grabbing con game, but that's a topic for another review!)

As to claims that McKenna induced schizophrenia in one of his subjects -- oh, please! True mental illness is a complicated, long-standing condition that is not caused by a session with a hypnotist. If hypnosis in some way brought the person's illness to a head, that, I think, is as healthy as clearing away dead flesh to expose and cleanse gangrenous tissue. At any rate, I would hate to have anyone reading these reviews decide not to experience the benefits of hypnosis because of a fear of "going crazy." Nonsense like that has plagued the practice of hypnosis since the days of Anton Mesmer and the first use of this valuable and exceedingly beneficial technique.

Other reviewers said that they found McKenna's techniques too complicated and time-consuming. I found his instructions crystal clear and very easy to follow. He has a wonderful, conversational writing style that puts the information into simple layman's terms anyone can understand. A nice change from some of the other books I've read on hypnosis and the subconscious, that read like graduate-level college textbooks.

Difficult? Time-consuming? Well, what is it worth in terms of time and effort to completely overhaul your life? Would you perhaps give up watching one TV sitcom a day to stop struggling with your weight problem, quit smoking effortlessly (I did), pave the way to success and abundance, improve your health, and generally feel more empowered, inspired and just plain HAPPY than you've ever been in your life? Because that's about all it takes, 30 minutes to an hour, and by the way, it's very enjoyable, and will leave you feeling more refreshed than an hour-long massage.

Hearing is believing. Go to paulmckenna.com and download the free induction recording. No strings attached, there are no advertisements, just a 28-minute session. Listen to it and you'll know there aren't any "dangerous" suggestions on it. You'll understand that you don't become a comatose zombie, as the melodramatic Hollywood portrayal of hypnosis suggests. All you do is relax, like lazing on a warm beach on a lovely summer day. Is that so scary?

5.0 out of 5 stars I love Paul McKenna, May 10, 2008

.

Paul has built upon the foundations of NLP and made great progress in bringing this life-changing Technique/Program/Technology to an ever-increasing audience. I found nothing new in the material, but the presentation and delivery are quite effective.

I recommend reading the book, doing the exercises and improving your life. If it take you more than seven days, that's ok too. Move from one exercise to the next at your own pace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes Change Easy, September 5, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Change Your Life in Seven Days: The World's Leading Hypnotist Shows You How (Hardcover)
It's hard to change. Often, people say they "want" to change, but have no idea how to start the process.

There's help in this book. McKenna teaches an easy, day-by-day method of relaxation/visualization that allows readers to tackle each area of life that they wish to improve (Such as health, finances, etc.).

Taken in order, along with the free hypnosis download (the author provides info. in the book on how to get this download), each day's "lesson" will put readers in the proper frame of mind to take control of their lives.

This is an easy read that may have surprisingly positive results for many.

5.0 out of 5 stars Many will find this book helpful and enlightening, May 14, 2005
This review is from: Change Your Life in Seven Days: The World's Leading Hypnotist Shows You How (Hardcover)
I am always a bit leery of self-help books especially ones that make wild claims. However this is not your typical self help book.
Although many of the techniques elucidated in this book have long been known the presentation of how to employ these techniques is quite good. It is a book that I believe anyone can follow and use.
McKenna has been employed by the rich and famous to help them. Let him help you.
Speaking from my own scientific background as a psychology major who did his graduate work in neuroscience (Princeton) and animal behavior (Max Planck Institute in Germany) I see nothing in this book that runs contrary to what science knows about how the mind works.
This is not a "new age fad" and the author explains this by giving a brief history of hypnosis in both its use and misuse.
One of the great living Tibetan Buddhist lamas would continue to ask his pupils "where is your mind?" It is a question that is not as simple to answer as you might think if you reflect on it. I will rephrase by asking "are you driving your mind or is your mind driving you?
McKenna's techniques are sound and should help the reader get out of negative behavioral loops into which we all often fall.
There is nothing sinister about self-hypnosis. It is one of the ways our mind works. Whether or not we are aware of it we are haphazardly self-hypnotizing everyday. This book shows you how to take control of the process.
Those still in doubt after reading this review should check out other books on hypnosis by McKenna. This man is no "flash in the pan".
Read it and be helpless no more.
