5.0 out of 5 stars life-changing book
This small book, written in a gentle, conversational tone, would change the world if everyone read it and tried to apply its wisdom. I ended up buying it after borrrowing it from a library because there is so much good stuff to be highlighted. While the title is about changing your thoughts, a predominant goal of the book is to promote peace in our own lives, which...

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple Truths, April 24, 2006

This review is from: Change Your Mind And Your Life Will Follow: 12 Simple Principles (Hardcover)
This small book is a gem. The principles she writes about
are simple truths, some of them I learned as a child, some
of them I needed to be reminded of, such as don't try
to control or tell other people what to do and don't worry
about what others think of you. She mentions the 12-steps
of AA a few times and A Course in Miracles - two excellent
resources also.

This book isn't directly about how we lose ourselves in others; it's more about what happens when we decide to give ourselves up to the whims of the world. The book helps describe where this comes from, and offers some ways to get out of it. Life can be a walk on the beach, it doesn't have to feel like we're stuck in slow moving quicksand. This book can be helpful if we want to pull ourselves out of where we're already stuck - whether that place is in our own heads or in the lives of others.

5.0 out of 5 stars life changing book, February 7, 2007

This review is from: Change Your Mind And Your Life Will Follow: 12 Simple Principles (Hardcover)
I saw this book in a catalog I receive regularly and thought it sounded "interesting". What I couldn't foresee was how pertinent and vital this book has become in my life. I had just gone through a really rough patch at work, mostly because of the way I reacted towards others. After reading this book I realized how, after years of "banging my head against the wall", I was never going to change anyone's behavior but I had COMPLETE control over my own emotions. I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone!!!! Somewhere in those 12 steps I guarantee YOU that at least one of those steps will ring true in your life, giving you more peace in your life.

Sometimes we need to be reminded of the simple things and how to right ourselves and how to get back on center. Great book on how to keep spiritually fit. Great book for gift giving when someone you know needs a spiritual lift.

4.0 out of 5 stars 12 Steps to a More Peaceful Life, December 18, 2008
This review is from: Change Your Mind And Your Life Will Follow: 12 Simple Principles (Hardcover)
"When we choose a peaceful response, the effect of our choice radiates outward into the world." ~ pg. 124

Karen Casey has written a small book that takes about an hour to read, however the lessons contained in this book can have big results. She starts the book by talking about how we should not interfere in other people's lives and then each chapter seems to have something to do with working on our own lives vs. worrying about other people's lives.

From what I can tell from her own experiences she grew up with very controlling people trying to run her life. This book takes a completely different direction, it almost preaches: "withdrawal." This might be fine for some people who are not in a relationship or who don't have kids. I believe you need to be active in your relationships and not neglectful. What happens if your kids are on drugs, should you not "interfere." I would take the chance to save my kid's life.

While the advice is good at times I did disagree with this sentence: "I also suggest that whenever thoughts of the future come into your mind, you envision blowing them away." ~ pg. 29 Many spiritual teachers would tell you just the opposite and that you should visualize your future which then leads to success.

If you are traveling along a spiritual path (and all of us are in some way) then many of the ideas in this book may seem familiar to you. As you read each chapter you can do your own reality check to see where you are in regards to the advice given. For example, the advice on never arguing seems like good advice but it is probably never going to happen. You are probably still going to argue sometimes even if you try to avoid all negative experiences.

What I appreciated most about this book was the fact that we can make positive choices that will better our lives. Karen Casey guides you through each step so you can analyze your current life and find out what changes need to be made.

I bought this book for all our seven boys, plus myself and for friends. I've read many such books, but most were from non-experienced authors who theorized, and had to write too much to say little. Karen Casey has dug herself out of hell into heaven all from proper thinking. We are what we think, eat, and who we associate with, and it helps to change your circumstances and begin to rethink your future. I highly recommend this book, read it more than once, and pass the knowledge along.
