Book Description

Changeling Saga April 1, 1999
Two worlds. One teems with life and technology. It is called Earth. The other is a twisting maze of inter-connected dwellings and empty space. It is called the Castle. Both worlds know violence. Both know greed. And now, in our time, they are about to meet... May the best world win. From the powerful imagination of author Peter Garrison comes a stunning new saga, the tale of a sixteen-year-old Earth boy who does not yet know he is from another world--a Changeling, switched with a human child when he was still an infant. Nor does he know that he is about to be plunged into a war that will not only determine the future of Earth, his adoptive home, but also the strange world where he was born. Murder and magic. Treachery and terror. It is time to fight The Changeling War.

From Library Journal

In a world known as Castle, Aubric escapes from a hopeless battle by disappearing into a warren of underground tunnels that lead to an unexpected destiny, while on Earth, a pair of teenagers flee from their would-be kidnappers through the use of their new-found magic talents. Garrisons first novel launches a series that depicts the collision of two worldsone rich in magic, the other in violence. Despite some awkward passages, this cross-world fantasy adventure is suitable for large fantasy collections, and its youthful heroes may appeal to YA readers.

From Kirkus Reviews

First of a fantasy series, the Changeling Saga, from the pseudonymous Garrison. On Earth, the enigmatic Mr. Smith intends to kill or capture 16-year-old Brian Clark and his friend Karen Eggleton. To deal with Brian, Mr. Smith sends hoodlums Joe and his cousin Ernie, but the hit fails when Joe shoots Brian's father. And Karen's nemesis, Eric Jacobsen, also controlled by Smith, falters when opposed by Karen's mysterious neighbor, Mrs. Mendeck. Brian and Karen are Changelings, you see, from another world, the Castle, that consists of strange, magical environments and endemic warfare. Here, human warrior Aubric of House Green, captured by the vicious, ambitious Karmille, daughter of the scheming, immortal Lord Grey, escapes by forming an alliance with some telepathic lights, the remnants of the Castle's once-mighty builders. Karmille accompanies Sasseen, one of the powerful magicians known as Judges who serve the Color Lords, to hunt Aubric. Jacobsen, having fallen through a black whirlpool, arrives in the tunnels and meets the magical gnarlyman, Summitch; they join the bronze-bodied, godlike Gontor and the silent warrior Tsang. Another force of Judges, living secretly and independently in the deep levels, aims to capture the various wanderers. Back on Earth, Ernie and Joe switch sides and assist Mrs. Mendeck, police officer Jackie Porter, and Brian and Karen in their confrontation with Mr. Smith. With intriguing ideas and situations, the story's not too badif all rubber walls and rounded edgesdespite the flimsy plot details and disappointingly feeble showdowns. -- Copyright ©1999, Kirkus Associates, LP. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, April 3, 1999
This review is from: The Changeling Saga 1: The Changeling War (Paperback)
Two worlds exist together, yet forever apart. The earth is understandable, at least to most of those who are born there. The other world, the Castle, makes sense to the native-born who live in its winding maze of passages. But there are those who travel between the worlds. And there are those who have been caught in the wrong world. These are the Changelings.

One changeling, a boy on earth who was switched with a human baby at birth, is about to find out that he's different, and in terrible danger. Another changeling, the warrior Aubric, is also in danger. He has been captured by the evil Karmille, daughter of a High Lord and consort with a Judge. On earth, a Pale Man is trying to capture the Changeling, and in the Castle, magic is unleashed. And the war begins.

The Changeling War is the first book of The Changeling Saga. This book is obviously a set-up piece, introducing a host of characters, both on earth and in the Castle. Perhaps the promise of a saga serves to help prepare the reader for the onslaught of people and events that fly like heat-seeking missiles from all directions, but the premise is a bit muddled, and this is one case where a score-sheet to keep up with the players would be appreciated. On the other hand the writing is clean, the adventure very realistic, and the idea a sweeping one. Sure to be enjoyed by those who love fantasy series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner!, March 30, 1999

This review is from: The Changeling Saga 1: The Changeling War (Paperback)
This was a very good book. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down, I read it in less than a day. The concept of crossed worlds is nothing new, but Garrison did a great job in making the other world. "The Castle" world is very unique and it's government's structure is very intersting. I can't wait for book 2!

5.0 out of 5 stars A truly originel story thats keeps you wanting more, July 27, 2001
This Book Rocks! The few cons(poor editing, somewhat bumpy ride, and standstill moments) in it are quickly outdone by the many pros. First of all I want to say that this book probobly has the most imagenitive story i have ever heard of-much less read. The poor character developement and, well, boring moments are small details that youll quickly forget about. Rule 1 DO NOT READ THE BACK OF THIS BOOK! It tells nothing about whats inside. Now for the story. There two worlds(well three really) and many main characters. On Earth there normal kid Brian and his friend karen... or so you think. they really changelings being hunted by mr. smith. On castle there is the commen field soldier Aubric who takes control of a power beyond belief. There are too many more characters to include in this review. The story is twisted, bizzare, and very unique. I was litterally dazzled by this book and its fellows and im sure youll be too!!!!!
