Editorial Reviews

The Changer and the Changed is THE album that pioneered and carried the genre known as Women s Music. One of the top selling independent albums when it was released in 1975, it maintained that distinction until the early 90's - an amazing record. These songs are the timeless standards, speaking to all as deeply today as they did when they were first heard. Cris s achievements are part of the curriculum in Women's Studies programs around the world. Her songs are sung around campfires, appear in hymnals and are covered by countless young artists of today. A recepient of many awards, including WUMB Radio's 'Top Folk Albums of the Millenium.' As Bonnie Raitt said so clearly, 'Cris has been a lot of women s hero, including mine.'

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for women, nor just for gay women, just plain great, August 30, 1999

This review is from: The Changer and the Changed (Audio CD)
A roommate's girlfriend left the album in our apartment in 1980; listened once, liked it, six years later I was sleepless at night with flu and ear infection, listening to womens' radio show in Portland, Or, on Walkman, heard "The Song of The Soul" and swear that my fever broke and ear healed within the hour. I don't compare Cris Williamson to other folkies or "womens' musicians;" rather to Johannes Brahms, Felix and Fanny Mendelsohn, and late-period Beethoven short works. This is what they call "absolute music," beyond categorization. There are not enough stars in this rating system for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible!, November 18, 2005
This review is from: The Changer and the Changed (Audio CD)
A friend of mine recommended Cris Williamson and played Waterfall for me. I remembered the song vaguely from college and when I picked up the album I was hooked. But my true appreciation for this album was at a major turning point in my life while waiting for surgery in Vibraham hospital in Bangkok Thailand. I listened to to the songs that had become, by that time, old friends, but they took on new meaning. Song of the Soul just perfectly expressed so much about the world. It led me to such acceptance of myself and forgiveness for others. In the middle of Dream Child the nurses arrived to take me for my SRS. Everything turned out wonderfully, but that morning changed me so much in how I look at the world. I still can't listen to the album without the same profound thoughts coming to my mind. I'm deeply indebted.

5.0 out of 5 stars IF more stars were available...100+ might do it!, October 22, 2001

Cris is the "gift" to music. She shares her heart and soul in vocal stylings that are easy on the ears, touching to the heart, and life affirming. If you have no other woman's albums...start here...you will be ordering all of her albums, none of which deviate from the superb quiality of this album. Cris is undoubtedly the finest musician never palyed on "pop" radio...if they only knew what they are missing!
