Book Description

When a young woman is found murdered in a seedy massage parlor near his neighborhood, the police recruit Randall Lee - an American acupuncturist and Tai Chi master -- as a translator and expert in Chinese culture, to assist in the investigation. Lee discovers that the murderer is an expert in a forbidden Chinese martial art - the dark mirror to his own healing practices - and joins in the hunt for the killer to escape his own inner demons and save the woman he loves.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Charles Colyott is a fresh and bold new voice on the mystery scene. Just when you think it has all been done before, here comes Randall Lee."
--Scott Nicholson, author of Liquid Fear

"Charles Colyott's novel, CHANGES, is a stunner. A thrill-ride from start to finish that will stay with you long after you've finished the last page. The characters are unique in detective lore, the situations are mesmerizing and together they draw the reader into a world quite unlike anything previously encountered. Read this book to learn, laugh, and fall in love with a brilliant young writer's work."

--Lisa Mannetti, two-time Bram stoker nominee and winner, The Gentling Box.

"With slick action reminiscent of Barry Eisler, and witty dialogue in the league of Jeff Strand, Charles Colyott creates a thriller all his own. The compulsively readable prose of CHANGES will keep you reading long into the night, and when you're through, you'll be hoping for another thriller starring the sometimes troubled acupuncturist/Tai Chi Chuan expert, Randall Lee."
----Glen Krisch, author of Brother's Keeper, Loss, Where Darkness Dwells, and The Nightmare Within

About the Author

Charles Colyott lives on a farm in the middle of Nowhere, IL, with his wife, two daughters, cats, and a herd of llamas and alpacas. He is surrounded by so much cuteness he finds it difficult to maintain his reputation as a dark and gritty writer. Charles teaches a beginner level Tai Chi Ch'uan class in which no one has died (yet) of the death touch. Unlike his llamas, he does not spit.

This author came highly recommended by someone who knows I love a good mystery, witty conversation, and expanding my horizons. I read the story in one sitting and enjoyed every minute, so I wholeheartedly second his recommendation.

Randall Lee is a very interesting protagonist. The writer's rolling out of his main character's personality and back story was well executed over the course of the book. Randall's got his issues but is cool, on the ball, wickedly sarcastic, endearingly funny, and can kick some serious butt. With his lifestyle, his profession, and his martial arts-he's a character it'll be a pleasure to continue getting to know in future books.

Charles Colyott gives good mystery with a refreshingly fun romantic angle. It's great when a male author obviously has a good time writing about the "L" word from the Mars point-of-view.

The kicker of a bonus in this book was learning more about acupuncture and Tai Chi Chuan delivered in a conversational style that was laid-back yet authentic and fascinating. Bravo!

I will definitely buy the next book in the Randall Lee Mystery series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most excellent! March 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A most excellent mystery! I've always liked stories that include Chinese culture. This was a great adventure with plenty of Tai Chi Chuan fighting. I loved the story, the action, the characters and the sharp wit of Randall Lee. The only character with comparable wit is Robert B. Parker's Spenser.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Read !!!!! February 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
When I first saw this book the title and the image on the cover peeked my interest. As I began to read I was afraid I wouldn't be able to understand some of the terminology such as "Tai Chi" however, the author did an amazing job giving great details of everything in the book. I felt like I could feel, taste and see everything that Randall Lee felt. Not only was this a great thriller/suspense/mystery/romantic novel it also opened my eyes to another culture. I definitely will be following Mr. Colyott and anxiously awaiting his next release. This would be a great book for group or club discussions.
