Excellent Prog with an AOR influence, June 21, 2000
This review is from: Changing Skin (Audio CD)
I'd held off on getting this because I'd read a lot of negative reviews of it, and people I know online said it was a pretty lack-luster. Well, to be honest, I don't know what they've been smoking, because this a good album. Very good in fact. As with Royal Hunt, Andre has a lot of keyboards, orchestration, and good hooks. Lyrics are in the emotional department, and they're quite heartfelt IMO. The main complaint I've heard about Changing Skin is the vocals. Well, sure, the guy on here isn't DC Cooper or John West, but he fits the music perfectly. He has a warm voice that can be very haunting. In short, if you love Royal Hunt, you'll most likely enjoy this. I regret delaying my purchase of this now...

Could have been a Royal Hunt album, September 15, 2003
This review is from: Changing Skin (Audio CD)
I have to admit I'm a bit confused by this one. Andre Anderrsen pretty much has creative control over Royal Hunt, so the logical reason for him to record a solo album would be to explore new areas and try new ideas, right? Well, Changing Skin is basically a Royal Hunt album with keyboard solos instead of guitar solos, which I suppose is good news if you're a die-hard Royal Hunt fan. If you were looking for something new and different from Anderssen, then you may be a bit disappointed by this album. Changing Skin sounds remarkably similar to the Royal Hunt albums that followed it, particularly Fearand The Mission. It's a solid, progressive, melodic rocker, with (surprise) lots of keyboards. I found it to be an enjoyable album, and am giving it a decent rating because it is a lot like the RH albums that I love, but wish it could have been a bit more unique. The cover of Whitesnake's Crying in the Rain was an interesting surprise, though it didn't turn out too well. If you like Royal Hunt, by all means pick this disc up, it is definitely right up your alley.

Outstanding sympho-rock album, November 9, 2005
This review is from: Changing Skin (Audio CD)
This album softer and slower than Black On Black. However, it has own speed and classical tunes. These two albums are different in pace and style that's what I like in Andersen. He tries not to produce the same stuff over and over again like other groups and musicians. This reminds me the Rainbow group by R. Blackmore who always had in his albums new melodies and tunes.
