Not a how-to, but a WHY-to,
This review is from: Changing Your World One Diaper at a Time: A Reflective Journey Through Your Baby's First Year (Paperback)
The purpose of this book is not to tell you how to raise a child. Or to make you feel crummy for not doing motherhood by the book. Instead, Marla Taviano shares real stories from her experiences as a mom and from the experiences of many, many other moms. She offers encouragement to be the kind of mother in your family that God has designed and ordained you to be. Her writing is infused with humor, with wit, with poignant examples, and most importantly, with Biblical truth. Her style makes sense to a busy mom. You can pick up this book and read a chapter in the small moments of calm you find in your hectic day. You can skip around to parts that seem especially pertinent to your current line of thought. You will definitely return to many passages in this book again and again. Reading this book allows you to slow down and really reflect on what a journey motherhood is. You can examine how you've changed and grown, how you've adjusted your expectations and your methods, how you want the whole parenting adventure to turn out, for baby AND for you.

Like reading 10 books at once!,

This review is from: Changing Your World One Diaper at a Time: A Reflective Journey Through Your Baby's First Year (Paperback)
We all know there are a million and one baby book authors out there...but there's only one Marla Taviano! Her writing is refreshingly honest and a great encouragement to new moms. She writes from her own experiences while encorporating words of wisdom from Scripture as well as from many friends. It's like getting tidbits from a dozen or so baby books while only having to read one! Buy the book, read it, and pass it on to your friends...it's worth every minute you spend reading it!

I didn't want this book to end!!,

This review is from: Changing Your World One Diaper at a Time: A Reflective Journey Through Your Baby's First Year (Paperback)
I have read many parenting books in my short time as a mommy to 2 under 2, and this one is by far my absolute favorite. What an encouragement this book was to my spirit. The author writes in such a way that you feel as if she is one of your old girlfriends, just laughing it up together. I really didn't want this book to be over, and made myself slow down as I got towards the end!!! I am going to buy this book for any baby showers I go to for now on, as it is just so refreshing, but at the same time shows you that we are not in this alone. Ultimately, God is our strength, but we also have our other mommy friends to help us out along the way!! Thanks Marla, I am currently reading your other 2 books now!!!

Review from a NYM (Not-Yet-Mom),
By
This review is from: Changing Your World One Diaper at a Time: A Reflective Journey Through Your Baby's First Year (Paperback)
I'm a NYM (Not Yet Mom) and I still got a lot out of this book! My favorite chapter was on non-denominational motherhood. Marla addresses the strife and thoughtless remarks often made between moms and not-yet-moms, and the judging and criticizing between moms on parenting styles and decisions. It was very insightful and convicting.I recommend this book to all mothers and all NYM's as well! Very encouraging, convicting, funny, Bible-based theology, and an easy, laugh-out-loud read! BUY IT!

encouragement in the trenches,

i found this read to be a great source of encouragement. i read the book pretty quickly the first time around. it is an easy read, for sure. but i have found myself re-reading selected portions that i really found encouraging. the author writes in a way that speaks to the common mother inside all of us, whether we stay at home, work, provide a scheduled environment or fly by the seats of our pants.when we are in the trenches with our little ones, doing our best to raise them in a Godly home, we find great encouragement in knowing others are there with us. and best of all, the author is constantly pointing us towards the Jesus Christ as the source of our strength.

For Every Mother!,

Marla Taviano's book on motherhood will inspire, challenge, and encourage "older" mommies, new mommies, soon-to-be mommies, and one-day mommies! I really enjoyed the casual, conversational tone of the book and found the stories of everyday life as a mom to be uplifting and humorous. Marla's practical advice will go a long way to encourage all moms out there. If you're a mom or will one day be a mom, buy this book!

Great Encouragement for Moms and Moms to be,
By
This review is from: Changing Your World One Diaper at a Time: A Reflective Journey Through Your Baby's First Year (Paperback)
This book is a great blessing for any mother who is looking at her life and wondering, "What in the world did I get myself into?!?!?" Marla writes in a way that feels as if you are talking to her over coffee. Very friendly, very understanding. Just when you think you are the only one who has had "those feelings" or had a child who did the worst thing ever, there is a story of a friend who has been there. She offers encouragement and hope for all of us mothers who feel like we don't accomplish anything of value all day long. It turns our focus away from the laundry, dishes, screaming children and barking dog and puts it right on what really matters. This book is real, it's emotional and it's a must read for all moms.

I found this easy read to be a valuable resource for moms. It provides an in-depth look at the first year of motherhood that I have not found in other parenting books. The author provides both real and practical advice based on her own experiences and that of other moms, which I could easily relate to. One of my favorite aspects of the book is the humor the author uses to lighten situations which would otherwise be overwhelming and stress-inducing. This book is truly a treasure!

Faith and humor make this a must read for all moms,

Changing the World One Diaper at a Time by Marla Taviano is a girlfriend to girlfriend look at how being a mother changes a woman inside and out. Taviano, who's also written the wonderful Is That All He Thinks About, tackles motherhood from a Christian point of view from preconception to the toddler years. Almost every woman dreams of holding a little bundle of joy in her arms, and sometimes motherhood is just like that, but those moments are few and far between. Most of the time it's feedings, diaper blow-outs, marathon crying sessions, and exhaustion. Taviano reminds readers not to lose sight of their marriage or themselves in being a mom. Her stories are hilarious and heart-breaking told by women who have been through it all and want to share their stories with other women who understand. She also tackles the tricky topic of moms attacking other moms for their parenting. Breast vs bottle, working or staying at home, etc. And pulling no punches, she lets us know that we need to be supporting each other, not tearing each other down. Amen! Postpartum depression, nursing, sex, Taviano covers it all (as usual) with humor and grace. This would make a perfect book for a first time mom or even for a mom with a few years practice in. I haven't had a child in diapers in a couple years (Thank God!), and I enjoyed every page.
