Hi

I have a Syma S007 helicopter and I liked it so much that I bought one of these.

I am doing short hovers inside my house. It is really fun once you can hover and do some basic maneuvers. I need to try it outside where I have more room to fly. Charge time is 100 minutes. Fly time is 5 to 8 minutes. If fly time could increase, that would be great. None the less, this is addicting and challenging. Overall, the helicopter is well built.

Hi

I have a Syma S007 helicopter and I liked it so much that I bought one of these.

I wanted something that I could fly outdoors and the S007 with the infrared controller just won't work in the sun.

I was quite disappointed at first.
This thing doesn't have anything like the controllability of the S007 and it will not penetrate into even the slightest breeze. I mean even a breeze you can't feel.

I started adding weight to the front and that helped a lot, but by the time I got up to 2 .45 caliber balls from my muzzle loader the weight was taking it's toll on performance.

I got around this by putting one .45 cal. lead ball on the end of a stalk that sticks out from the front of the helicopter about 3 inches. What a difference I can fly it all over the yard now, it will both penetrate into a very light breeze it is much more controllable when turning.

If you try this make the stalk out of something flexible that won't break when you hit the ground.
I used a piece of that black plastic shrink tube that you use for electrical connections, I fit the ball in the end and shrunk the tube around it, then taped it to the bottom of the body.

I'm still experimenting with the weight and length of the tube, but I was able to get in 3 flights today that didn't hit anything. My back yard has a lot of large Oak trees in it and I have to stay below the branches over head.

I'm looking at getting a Syma S006G witch ads a gyro, larger tail rotor, and a turbo button that will make the tail rotor run faster for outdoor flight.

I would recommend that if you are thinking of buying a S006 that you look at the S006G instead.

Mike

Most people looking at the this RC helicopter are new to the hobby, possibly seeing this as a step up from the entertaining air hogs. This can be a mistake. The Alloy Shark cannot hold it's course against even a mild breeze outdoors. Indoors, the spinning blades, much larger and heavier than those of the small micros, can damage and injure.

The Shark adjusts the torque from the two counter rotating blades to control direction. This is not precise, and so control is can be haphazard.

If you want to move up, it's a better idea to get a cheap 3 or 4 channel helicopter. There are plenty of reviews and lots of good advice on the hobby sites.

My First RC Helicopter, I just can't get enough. You need to make sure there isn't much wind where you fly it as it is easlty effected by wind. Also a shame you only get about 10 minutes fly time but i hear this is pretty standard for helicopters like this. Takes a while to get the hang of but lickily it is extremely durable, i have hit trees, basketball rings roofs and dropped it out of the sky from 5-7 metres and it is yet to break, replacement parts are quite readily avaliable though if it does break. A very good but for the serious beginner or intrmediate pilot.

Bought this helicopter for my grandson for Christmas 2009 It was packed very nice, no damage. Instructions were not very informative. It was of good quality but definitely takes practice flying.I think its definitely for ages 14 and up. Without good skills, you can damage easily.

This is a good flying basic heli, but not for the beginner. The gyro is very weak, the heli needs rudder trim every time the power is increased or decrease, and the trim amounts change every flight. The S107 is a much better beginning heli, as it's rock steady compared to the S006. If you can stay on top of it, the S006 is fun to fly, and it survived all the crashes on the first day of flying, which is more than I can say for any other heli I've owned.

I jumped into flying RC helos because of my two boys. RC Helos are fun as long as they are in the air and are controllable. I ordered Syma S006 because of its size as it is relatively bigger than its other cousins. Yes, the battery takes too long to charge and discharges pretty much quickly. But that is not an issue, at least for me, as I can replace it with another good brand Li-battery. The issue with this Helo is its instability and the cheap remote control, which actually doesn't control.

The Syma S006 was delivered today and after taking it out of the box, we all (father and the sons) waited patiently while it took its own sweet time to charge. After about 90 mins, once charged, I didn't start it on full throttle and we remained indoors, mainly because I wanted to check the trim. Of course, the helo's body was spinning faster than its rotors. I consulted the manual, which, I believe, was first written in Chinese and then horribly translated to English, mentioned adjusting a potentiometer on the circuit board. Being an Electrical Engineer, it was an easy thing to understand and fix. After taking the two small screws off from left and right side of the plastic body right below the rotor, it slid out easy. Surprisingly, there was no potentiometer on the circuit board. I could see several ICs, two transistors, a couple of resistors, a capacitor, and inductance coil, but no potentiometer. (To this my wife actually said - are you sure they haven't forgotten to put the potentiometer and perhaps that's what causing the spin).

Puzzled but attributing it to incorrect translation, I put the cover back on and tried to fix the spinning by the trim control on the RC. Once that was done, I tried 2/3rd of the max throttle and as it neared the ceiling of the hall, I pulled down the left stick on RC for it to descend. To my horror, the helo just kept going up and up, eventually hit the ceiling and became victim of the Newton's Law. Okay, not impressive.

Second attempt, I kept the throttle to about 50% and tried to steer it to left, it shook hard and started spinning badly. Again quick trim setting (even though it was done earlier) and I took back control over. Then, I tried to steer it right, resulting again in out of control spinning. The back and forward control was shaky too and didn't seem reliable. Syma S006 killed my fun of flying RC helos. Not sure, but looks like I'll be contacting the customer support to return it.

I also noticed that while ascending up in the air, it takes a long time just to stabilize at one level.

As you can read, this item is named 3 Channel Alloy Shark OUTDOOR Rc Remote Control Metal Frame Helicopter, but in the box, you can clearly read INDOOR. When I bought this item, I choose it because it was supposed to be outdoor. This means your not buying what they are selling. It is impossible to fly it outdoor unless no wind is blowing.

I recieved this for christmas and was amazed. I flew it for a good hour the first day (even with having to charge it) and by the end I could fly around the house. This thing can take a beating. My blades have alot of dents in them but it doesn't effect the heli. The one piece if advice I have is tiny wind = no flying because it cannot fly forward fast enough to push back against a 1mph wind. It is very durable, I had it out in my yard and was flying at top altitude (about 150 feet) when I lost contact and it dropped landed in 1 foot tall grass and emerged without a scratch. If you are looking for a cheap but cost efficient way of getting into this hobby go for this!!! A great heli in my book.
