5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent UHF/High band VHF antenna -- Small enough to mount indoors, August 10, 2008

This review is from: Channel Master 2Bay Out Antenna 4220Hd Antennas & Hardware Outdoor (Electronics)
I live in an apartment right in the middle between San Francisco and San Jose, so the significant transmitters are 31 miles away from opposite directions. First I tried the RCA ANT525 AMPLIFIED ANTENNA. It pulled in a lot of channels, but I had to crank up the amplification to the max. The problem is, it amplifies all disturbances too, so signal quality is unstable and varies greatly, for example when somebody moves around the room. This causes a very unpleasant viewing experience, especially with digital TV where picture and sound vanish completely when signal quality drops below a certain threshold.
Next up was the Philips High Performance Amplified Indoor Uhf/Vhf/Fm/HDTV Antenna, which boasts even more amplification. It performed significantly worse than the RCA, probably because I couldn't mount it high on the wall like the RCA.
Next, I ordered the highly recommended Antennas Direct DB2 Multi Directional HDTV Antenna, but cancelled the order after I realized that it's UHF-only. NBC is broadcast on channel 11 around here, and the summer games were one of the reasons why I bought a TV in the first place, so going UHF-only wasn't an option.
Then I found this Channel Master 4220. It claims to work also with high band VHF (channels 7-13 or something like that), so it should work perfectly for NBC. It's also a little smaller than the DB-2, which makes it even easier to use indoors. I just mounted it on the wall with a single nail. It looks a bit raw, but I actually like it, it's like contemporary wall art and goes well with a minimalistic modern interior. It took a while to find the best position, and now I get a solid signal for almost all channels without having to move the antenna. It's passive without amplification, so it doesn't need power and you don't have another cable going through your living room. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great in Orlando, August 1, 2008
This review is from: Channel Master 2Bay Out Antenna 4220Hd Antennas & Hardware Outdoor (Electronics)
I ordered this antenna online after looking for a smaller alternative to the CM4221. The CM4220-M came with a small satellite type mount (shown in the photo), and the antenna is small enough that it is not "ugly" outside the home.

We are about 15 miles from most of the broadcast towers (whihc are all grouped together) at abour 55 - 65 degrees. I have not mounted it outside yet, but the inside test produced excellent results. We received 45 channels, including channel 11 (VHF Hi) with perfect clarity.

The antenna is definetly directional, but it does seem to pick up some stations off access, but not as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good inexpensive HDTV antenna, March 8, 2009

Got this after a bit of research, and a call or two to Channel Master. Channel Master tech support was not the easiest to reach (kinda busy during this digital transition), but I finally got somebody that was very helpful.

Delivery from ANTOnline was very speedy. I had placed the order at around 5am, and by 1pm I had received an email notification of shipment. Kudos to ANTOnline!!!!

I am using this as an indoor antenna in my apartment in Disneyland's backyard. It provides a very good signal for nearly every channel, except for those with a weaker broadcast signal. The strong stations come in at 100% signal strength most of the time, and 80% or better for most of the others. (I have it hooked up to a CM-7000.) When compared to a well rated indoor antenna from Radio Shack, this thing smokes it.

Unfortunately, this will not be my final antenna. It only receives UHF. After June 6, 2009 a number of local stations will revert back to their VHF broadcast frequency. However, if all your local stations will be in the UHF range (14-69), then this should not disappoint. Just make sure to do your research on sites like antennawebp[...] and tvfool[...]. While one antenna may perform well for location, it may not be the best for other locales.

Just an FYI, the product you will receive may be different than the one pictured. Channel Master released a new revision. Check their website for more information.
