NEW PM4001X Mixers are Poor Quality!, December 1, 2006
This review is from: 4 Channel Rack Mount Stereo Mixer W/ 14 Band Equalizer (Electronics)
I recently purchased a Pyramid PM4001X mixer which was marketed as the original PM4001 (with a photo showing VU meters).
But what I received was the PM4001X: it is pure junk compared with the original.
It is very unethical for companies to be selling these as PM4001 mixers when they are really the new PM4001X mixer.
Specific problems with the 4001X version include:
1.) NO VU meters, just harsh LEDs
2.) Sloppy construction
3.) Poor quality control
4.) Serious technical problems (Hum in equilizer section)
5.) Very low quality audio potentiometers (controls)
6.) Loose fitting knobs which fall off easily.
The original PM4001 mixers (Green and black front panel with two nice VU meters) were the best in the industry
Their "replacements", the "X" versions, are silver metal front panel with LEDs (sold under the original part number).
The LEDS (light emitting diodes) are very harsh, especially when the mixer is used in a dark room.
Are these mixers worth $100..? Yes, but I advise you to AVOID THESE and try to locate the original Pyramid 4001 mixer or purchase another brand which has real VU meters and better quality.
