4.0 out of 5 stars Works very well, good price.
After much shopping for IR systems, this one looked to be the most cost effective for my simple in-cabinet setup.

There is no lag going through the system, and it is simple to setup. Just be warned that the cord from the IR Sensor to the main unit is only 36 inches long, and doesn't unplug from the main unit. If you need a longer run, or need to fish it...

set up was easy but despite being ir/plasma/sunlight proof (per manufacturer's website) it does not work very well. in the room it is about 15-20 feet from the main sitting area. you have to aim the remote (harmony 880 is what we are using) precisely at the eye or you get mixed results. by contrast, the xantech that we have in another room works flawlessly. i guess you...

If you need a longer run, or need to fish it through a hole smaller than 1/4", you should look at other units.

I have to subtract a point since the manufacturer failed to include the mounting hardware. Smart Home is taking care of it, and has promised to ship the mounting hardware to me as soon as possible, or a replacement unit.

This kit is very easy to set up, cables are plenty long, and the components are small and easy to mount. This kit can control four in-cabinet devices, and is expandable for four more. If you want to hide a cable box, DVD player, etc. and don't know where to start, just buy this kit. But, unpack the items carefully or you may overlook the mounting "holsters", etc. that are in the bottom of the package under a small card.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly for hiding all componets behind cabinets, May 26, 2009

Does exactly what I hoped it would do, eliminated the need to expose my cable, DVD and HD Receiver in my living room. Instead everything is tucked inside a wood cabinet with the tiny little IR receiver on the corner of the cabinet door as only visible part of the system. Was as simple to install as claimed and nicely expandable to more components.

I bought this to replace a Xantech 2500 IR receiver I bought about three years ago(my first such purchase). It never worked very well, and when it finally died I decided to gamble on a different product.

There aren't a lot of manufacturers to choose from, but after a month I can say I''m 100% pleased with the Channel Vision receiver. It's very inconspicuous, and I believe it responds faster and more accurately than the old one.

Some reviewers on Amazon noted it had a narrow operating range, but I've found the opposite to be true-by comparison to my old receiver.

In summary, I think this is a good value, and my shipping/delivery process was flawless.

This repeater is perfect. It is SO easy to install. It allows you to place all of your stereo equipment inside a closet or behind a wall. I think it works as intended with NO problems whatsoever. You have to make sure you point the remote directly at the eye (its very easy for something to get in the way of the eye) Make sure the eye is directly in front of the remote or in front of the position the remote will be used most often.

I ordered this even though my boyfriend was sure it was going to be junk.
IT WORKS! put all items in an armoir, hooked up the wires (very simple!) and voila! My boyfriend admits he was wrong and our elegant family room looks beautiful!
I am ordering another one today for our media room.
Simple!
Works!

Thank you!

3.0 out of 5 stars IR-5000, March 3, 2010

I hid my components in another room and needed a solution for controlling them. A friend suggested this product as he was using the same thing to control components in his basement. He spoke very highly of the product. In my installation I converted the wallplate where my cable jack was to a blank plate with a hole in which I installed the "hole-mount" for the IR receiver which is included with this product. In this configuration, the range of use is extremely narrow. I had to point my remote almost directly at the receiver (and since it was at the same height as a wall outlet, it became annoying very quickly). I ended up purchasing the Harmony 900 remote (to replace my Harmony One and the IR-5000) which does RF to IR conversion. That ended up being the better solution for me.

The concept is great and worked part of the time for me. I did not try using the IR-5000 without the hole mount. Perhaps it works much better when surface mounted to the face of the TV (this is how my friend has his mounted), but it definitely does not perform to expectation when using the hole-mount.

Very simple to set-up, does the job nicely. I am using it with a 60 inch tv with a dishnetwork reciever, Harmon Kardon AVR and DVD player below. Works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good product so far, September 11, 2009
This review is from: Channel Vision IR-5000 IR Receiver Kit (Electronics)
The product works as stated. I had problems finding out where ith IR sensor was on my cable box. The wire from the IR eye needs to be longer. Also the wire connecting the IR eye need to be able to disconnect from the switching box. I would Highly recommend the product. I would buy again. Uses the same system as the very costly high-end remotes with IR capabilities.
