The updated and complete review of the classic on channeling,
By A Customer
This review is from: Channeling: Investigations on Receiving Information from Paranormal Sources, Second Edition (Paperback)
This is an excellent, balanced, and authoritative review of all of the channeling material from both human and electronic sources. It has over 100 pages added to bring it up to date from it's earlier edition, which has long been considered to be a classic in the field. It is a must have for anyone at all seriously interested in the subject.

Rich and varied intro to the channeling phenomenon,
By A Customer
This review is from: Channeling (Audio Cassette)
This audiocassette is a perfect complement to Jon Klimo's book "Channeling," (upon which it is based), but it can stand alone as well. It is professionally produced and narrated by Stanley Ralph Ross. The exploration of channeling features comments by 7 well-known spirit guides (being channeled), including Seth (Jane Roberts), Lazaris (Jach Pursel), Enid (Iris Belhayes), Dr. Peebles (W. Rainen), Soli (neville Rowe), Master Adolfo (Carol Simpson), and Abrham (Tom Massari). There is also a guided meditation created especially for this tape by Lazaris designed to open the listener to the experience of channeling. A 7-step induction technique is included as well, conducted by Enid. All in all, one has a superb opportunity here to experience a variety of channeled entities and to explore the subject in a serious, non-"airy-fairy" manner. It's a shame this tape is OOP as the channeling phenomenon has grown widely since the tape (and Klimo's fine book) were released. This tape and fine booklet would ease the mind of anyone who might confuse channeling with "mediumship." The spirit guides are loving and humorous and the entire experience is uplifting as well as informative. Highly recommended!

An Excellent Survey of Channeling,
By A Customer
This review is from: Channeling: Investigations on Receiving Information from Paranormal Sources, Second Edition (Paperback)
Jon Klimo's book, which I read some years ago, really brought together in a pretty objective way a lot of good thinking on what channeling is all about, as well as detailing the history of the phenomenon. I'm glad to see it's available again, since my copy got "beamed up" and I haven't seen it since! ;)

AN EXCELLENT OVERVIEW OF THE "CHANNELING" PHENOMENA,
By
This review is from: Channeling: Investigations on Receiving Information from Paranormal Sources (Hardcover)
Dr. Jon Klimo has a doctorate in psychology, and is considered an authority on "channeling." He has taught in doctoral programs for the past 34 years at the San Francisco Bay Area campus of The American Schools of Professional Psychology, Argosy University. He has also co-authored the books Handbook to the Afterlife and Suicide: What Really Happens in the Afterlife?.
He wrote in the Introduction to this 1987 book, "I intend for this book to be a balanced and objective treatment of the phenomenon of channeling so that you the reader can make your own judgments... This book has been written for three reasons: The first is to clarify thinking about channeling---to attempt definitions and a general understanding---and in the process to clarify thinking about related phenomena... My second reason for writing this book is to address the experience that an ever-increasing number of people seem to be having of communication with beings from levels of reality beyond the physical as we know it... the third reason for writing this book: to expand your view of reality, both the nature of the self and the nature of physical reality, and to awaken you to the greater possibilities of being human." Here are some additional quotations from the book: "Channeling is the communication of information to or through a physically embodied human being from a source that is said to exist on some other level or dimension of reality than the physical as we know it, and that is not from the normal mind (or self) of the channel." (Pg. 2) D. Scott Rogo: "Channeling I define as bringing through some sort of intelligence, the nature undefined, whose purpose is to promote spiritual teachings and philosophical discussion." (Pg. 6) "Ray Hyman ... claims of channels: 'Ninety-five percent are not conscious frauds. Some are split personalities. Everyone has the potential.'" (Pg. 14) "Michael Murphy (said of Helen Schuchman and ACIM): 'God knows what she could have regurgitated from the subliminal mind. I don't believe it's Christ. She was raised on that kind of literature. Her father had a metaphysical bookshop. Every single idea has been expressed before. There's nothing new in it." (Pg. 41) "(C)ertain questions can be legitimately raised about ... has the channel, either consciously or unconsciously, decided to take over by mimicking a process that was perhaps once genuine but whose vein has run dry? Is it the channel or the source... who has become tempted by the endless roomfuls of devotees hanging onto every word and movement?" (Pg. 44) "Some authorities still make a distinction between the terms channeling and mediumship, with the latter reserved for communication only from deceased human beings, while channeling covers communication with all other kinds of intelligences not associated with embodied minds or with physical reality." (Pg. 95) "What distinguishes the Normans (of "Unarius") from most other channels is that they single themselves out as exalted players in cosmic mythology that is supported by their sources... Needless to say, for many in the channeling field, the Normans constitute somewhat of an embarrassment." (Pg. 128) "There appear to be two kinds of channeling: intentional and spontaneous. In intentional channeling, the person who is channeling controls the phenomenon and can usually produce it at will... In spontaneous channeling ... the individual is not able to control the activity and is at the mercy of its comings and goings." (Pg. 185)

I really liked the way this comprehensive book is organized. There's detailed historical context along with well-organized proposed explanations. With my own particular interests I cherry picked favorite chapters and skimmed others. The book lends itself to a wide variety of individual inquiry. I highly recommend it.

Channeling: Investigations on Receiving Information from Paranormal Sources by Jon Klimo
Although previous reviewers gave this book a high rating, I find it extremely booring. Klimo takes pages and pages to just clear his throat saying essentially nothing. By page 30, my only thought is to just burn this book. I don't recommend buying this book unless you can't sleep and are allergic to sleeping pills. |
