A warm and illuminating guide,
By A Customer
This review is from: Edgar Cayce on Channeling Your Higher Self (Studies in Surface Science and Catalysis) (Mass Market Paperback)
Having never read any books in the Edgar Cayce series before, I found that this book not only lived up to the promise of its title, but also provided an excellent introduction to Edgar Cayce's work in general. The idea of "channelling" sounds a little dated, but the opening chapter put me at ease immediately with an explanation of this very wide-ranging word. The remainder of the book is a thorough discussion of all kinds of channelling, from dreams, creative and inspirational writing, imagination and intuition, to the less everyday techniques of channelling other spirits, trance channelling and healing. Even in these later chapters Henry Reed does a marvellous job of providing down to earth descriptions and explanations and is quick to point out the pitfalls of some methods. Each chapter opens with the sayings of Edgar Cayce. As a newcomer to his work I had some difficulty grasping the meaning or significance of these quotes. Henry Reed's explanations, on the other hand, I found both clear and fascinating. His illustrative diagrams I found especially illuminating. Henry Reed also draws upon his own reading and research to amplify and demonstrate his explanations. Although this book is not really set out as a "how to" guide, there are many suggestions for meditation and other exercises, and some group exercises, which are well worth following. In the end, channelling your higher self is about being yourself as only you can be. As Henry Reed says, "God intends for the world to have your expression. Use your intuition to know your soul's identity, your heart's true desire, and let it be." And Henry Reed has given a great deal of himself and his own love in writing this book. His warmth shines through. As for the work of Edgar Cayce, the best recommendation I can give is that I had already bought a couple more books about him before finishing this one.

A MUST-READ FOR SEARCHERS OF THE SOUL,
By Jennifer Black (Lausanne, Switzerland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Edgar Cayce on Channeling Your Higher Self (Studies in Surface Science and Catalysis) (Mass Market Paperback)
An excellent book for those who are seeking answers to the mystery of the soul. This book gave me much insight into who I am and why I am here now. Do not expect to levitate after reading the book, but I can almost assure that if you are spiritually connected or even interested in spirituality in the slightest, you will reap rewards that will help you throughout the rest of your life. Don't worry if it seems like lots of repetition; it's like that for a reason. You'll see.

This book distills the information embedded in the Cayce readings to clear messages that work for me in this time and place. Really a remarkable read for how often it struck me as both profound and accessible. We all need to read this book.

I have read hundreds of books (ask Amazon :) on the subjects of spirituality, spiritual enlightenment, searching for God, the truth, and the answers. This book has made me advance spiritually, understand, and learn more than any other. Easy to comprehend, but still a teacher for those who feel they are advanced. You will learn more from reading this, I promise.

*Way* exceeded my expectations,

This review is from: Edgar Cayce on Channeling Your Higher Self (Studies in Surface Science and Catalysis) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book is packaged as a massmarket paperback, the kind you'd buy in a supermarket checkout line. I bought it casually and didn't expect more than a mildly interesting collection of Edgar Cayce's thoughts on the subject of channelling. Wrong! Reed is an excellent writer, and presents some rather huge ideas with remarkable clarity. This book is intelligent, fast-paced (but thorough) and most of all -- exciting! I couldn't wait to try some of the end-of-chapter exercises, especially the one on communicating with your Higher Self through dreams. The implications for creativity (writing, music, etc.) are empowering too.

I am a practicing buddhist and contrary to the first reviewer I believe this book is very much in line with buddhist teachings. One has to draw their own parallels from it. But I strongly recommend it to any one who is interested in developing their inner world. Any one who believes that our minds/souls are huge un-tapped energy fields will enjoy this book. Its [inexpensive] and it is easy to ready. Great book.

Something Actually Useful!,

This review is from: Edgar Cayce on Channeling Your Higher Self (Studies in Surface Science and Catalysis) (Mass Market Paperback)
I found this book useful for developing your channeling abilities. Unlike many books by popular publishers, this book is based on work of a real psychic, who actually knew what he was talking about. The writer of this book did a nice job explaining the meanings of Cayce's words and providing exercises for the reader to explore for himself.

This review is from: Edgar Cayce on Channeling Your Higher Self (Studies in Surface Science and Catalysis) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of the best books on channeling despite the fact that it only covers the period up to 1989 as far as input from other researchers is concerned. This undiminished validity is mainly due to the deep insights of Edgar Cacey from a lifetime of struggle with being a channel. There is no fundamental question which was not explored by Edgar Cayce, such as what is the source, is there scientific verification, are there good and bad channels, what are suitable questions, how trustworthy are the answers, what must we beware of, etc . His significance may be ascertained from the fact that he coined the term `channeling', and that he was the first to talk about `creating your own reality'.
The book provides guidance on how to engage in channeling and derive benefit from it, like `Don't ask the question if you are not ready to take responsibility for the answer' or' Knowledge (gained from channeling) not applied is more costly than the bliss of ignorance'. The author lets us partake in the wisdom of Edgar Cacey such as `It is not what we learn that changes us, but what we apply of what we learn', and `There is no perfect absolute truth, only a better and more workable approximation to it'. There are also good references to research into channeling by many important contributors. The book is not just about the topic of channelling but very much from the heart of one of the greatest practitioners, which makes it so powerful. It is a great source for enabling growth in consciousness. However, the importance of gaining actual experience is stressed, as just reading about channeling is not considered an adequate substitute. In addition a great amount of commitment and integrity is considered a prerequisite before engaging in it. Haran, author of '75 Lives of Haran - New Insights into Reincarnation' |
