Ready for big jobs (view larger).

Ready for big jobs, the Channellock BigAzz 20-1/4-inch Straight Jaw Tongue and Groove Plier (model 480) is perfect for heavy industrial use such as pipe fitting, well and rig maintenance and heavy machinery repair. More than offering just brute strength, the 480 boasts an impressive list of safety features. Jobs requiring high leverage are no problem, as reinforcing ridges on the front and back of the tongue and groove channels greatly enhance this massive tool’s strength and resistance to stress breakage.

The 20-1/4-inch tongue and groove plier is made from durable high carbon, drop-forged steel, polished to perfection and offering a massive 5-1/2-inch jaw capacity. Its 12 non-slip, undercut adjustment channels offer a versatile range of adjustments for virtually every field application. The jaws of this aggressive tool feature right-angled teeth, providing gripping power in all directions.

The PermaLock fastener eliminates nut and bolt failure common to other plier designs. It's completed by Channellock's iconic blue handle, which is both comfortable in your hand and easy to spot in your tool bag.

The 480 Channellocks are big enough to do the job. I have a GE whole house water filter system that has a filter that needs to be changed periodically. I always have had a hard time unscrewing the housing with the smaller Channellocks. The last time I put in a new filter I had to over tighten the housing and I was unable to unscrew the housing. I was faced with calling a plumber or finding this tool. I did not know that this size was available until I googled and found this big boy.

These Channellock 480 Big Azz pliers are an excellent product. Good sharp teeth, big physical size. For that big thing you need to grab that can be as big as 5" this tool does the job. Made in the USA.

The only knock is that they have some sharp and seemingly unfinished edges. Most older tools have all the sharp edges removed. Too bad they now cut corners on the finished feel.

Still a great and highly recommended product.

The 480 is an overgrown version of the common tongue and groove pliers that have been around for eons. These pliers don't grip like a pipe wrench or chain tongs, but are better than common slip-joint pliers. The 480 is very well made and has a capacity of around 5 inchs. I don't believe I will ever use this tool at it's rated capacity, and I probably won't use it often, but it exerts a lot of pressure on smaller items and I am glad I purchased them.

I have to admit that while I'm a huge fan of Channellock in general, I probably would have never bought these at the regular price. Why? They're ridiculously huge, to the point where you could easily fit them around a coffee can with room to spare. Almost nobody needs pliers this big, and they're bordering on being a gag for the vast majority of home owners and shade three mechanics, tinkerers and the like. I'm sure some folks have a perfectly legit need for these, and I've seen other reviews state as much, so don't misunderstand, I'm simply stating that the vast majority will find these far too big to be of any real use (unless, of course, you want to break something, at which they surely excel).

That said, when the price dropped into silly cheap range, I had to have them. They are an awesome showpiece on any pegboard and who knows, one day I might need them to really reef on something. If you're a true Channelllock fan, I highly encourage you to pick these up when the price is right, as they're not typically sold in brick and mortar locations. Besides, when the day comes that you actually need these babies, you'll have them at the ready.

These are so useful! I am a mechanic and use these all the time. They're great for compressing caliper pistons fast! The Snap-On pliers of this size are exactly the same and twice as much money. Channellock is the way to go!

These are huge pliers. They afford a degree of leverage occasionally needed and fill that bill excellently. They are a quality tool you would expect from this brand. If you need an extra latge plier this is the one.

I had a stubborn whole house water filter that I was unable to loosen with the little plastic wrench, it broke. I needed to change out the water filter as my water pressure was getting low and I always hated changing them out as it should take less than 5 minutes but always took longer do to the fact I couldn't get it tight enough and it leaked. Well no more used these channel locks and it back to a 5 minute job. If you are struggling with anything similar be it a whole house water filter or large filter for a semi get these and save your self the aggravation. There of typical Channel Lock quality and you will kick yourself for not getting them sooner, "so get a pair already"

I recently had to replace a water heater and a water softener and could only find one of my regular pipe wrenches. I had a pair of these wonderful Channellocks and they were my other wrench and worked beautifully; no slipping; no marring; just worked. what more can i say. Well worth the money and i would buy them again in an instant.
