Designed specifically for firefighters, first responders and EMTs (view larger).

As a first responder, your job requires tools that are reliable and versatile. The Channellock Rescue Tool (model 87) pries open windows and doors, cuts wires and cables easily, shuts off gas safety valves, and loosens hose couplings. The 87 Rescue Tool is 2 inches shorter and 30 percent lighter than Channellock's previous 89 Rescue Tool, but is still packed with powerful safety functions essential in emergency situations.

The 87 Rescue Tool offers five safety functions in one compact tool that can easily fit in a pocket. At 8.8 inches long and 1.1 pounds, the 87 features hardened cutting edges designed to shear through soft metal and standard battery cables and a narrow jaw that fits into tight spaces, plus a spanner wrench to tighten and loosen up to 5-inch hose couplings. Channellock uses high carbon C1080 steel for superior performance on the job, and an electronic coating for ultimate rust prevention.

Channellock finally listened to it's customers and built a smaller version of this tool without the window punch. It could still be made lighter but it isn't a bad tool at all. It is small enough to fit in my bunker pants pocket and easy to get to when needed. I am primarily going to use this as a cable cutter, but think the spanner and gas shutoff will come in handy once in a great while.

I have been using this for over a year and have found it to be very handy on calls. I use it mostly fr cutting battery cables at car wrecks, but once in a while the gas key has come in handy. It is very sturdy and has taken quite a beating since I added it to the items in my turnouts. The only problem with it being so sturdy is that it is also a little heavy. It has never let me down and has cut through almost everything I have ever needed it to. It fits into the turnout pockets a lot easier than the full size version and still has plenty of versatility. I would buy it again if i ever had to.

The Channellock 87 8.88- Inch Rescue tool was the best tool I carry. It fits perfect in my pocket of my gear. It's well made by Channellock which I own many of there tools. And the big plus is it's made in the USA. I would recommend the 8.88 over 10.99 it fits better in your gear.

Even though I liked the original full sized Channellock 89 tool, it was way to large to comfortably fit into bunker pants and the leather pouch was not feasible to wear with bunkers while also wearing an SCBA. Also, the window punch had to be ground off to prevent it from poking holes in bunkers.

This smaller version is a much better size. It lays perfectly on the bottom of (my) bunker pants, does NOT have a window punch, and is made well enough to be firefighter proof and take some serious abuse. The shorter length of this tool means there isn't as much leverage for prying, but if you need that much leverage, you should use a two handed tool anyway.

This tool, a throw-away knife, cheap lock jaws, and a Knipex cutter like the 7132200 (for self extrication) really does cover a lot of basic needs for a firefighter.

After the IAFF Fire Ground Survival class everyone in our Department is carrying some sort of cutters. I am proud to say mine are Union made, "USA", stamped right on the side! They fit perfect in my right bunker pocket. I have them upright in my organizer, but unlike the longer model they will fit sideways. Spanner wrench works well and gas key actually fits. Using the pry bar to remove interior liners of vehicles to expose SRS components before cutting works great and the spanner can be used as a hook to one degree or another.

I have had this tool in my rescue pants for some time now. Functions great. cuts battery cables with ease ( we only cut when we have to) have used tool to pry off several treminals. I also use the spanner function and works great. the corner of the tool at the gas shut off works well at popping widows, a quick flick of the wrist and the window is shattered just like a center punch. I also have the older larger tool with pliers but it is bigger and does not fit in pocket as well at this compact tool. I would highly recomend it to anyone who is looking for a multi purpose tool.

I am a Lt. In a paid department and am not much for gadgets however this is a tried and true tool. The shorter design fits well in the side pocket of my bunker pants. The tool is well built as it is channel lock. Great for cutting battery cables or self rescue from entanglement. The tool is dark so spray some hi vis paint to keep track of them better.

Really like the new design. Had the old pair and these are much better. The smaller design and lighter weight allow them to fit in bunker gear much easier!
