4.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Compilation of Hardy's Early Years!
Though this is obviously a "cheapo" release with very sparse information about the tracks and the artist, it is actually a pretty well compiled CD of some of Hardy's best early recordings.

Containing most her of biggest hits like "Ce Petite Coeur", "Tous les Garcons et les Filles", "La Maison ou Jái Grandi" and her only British top 20 hit-single "All...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pleasant 60s French pop
Ah these are the sort of songs you'll probably hear at some holiday hotel in France. You can't help but hum along to the tune because you wouldn't really know what the lyrics are. At least that's the feeling I get from them. But seriously, these songs are beautiful in there simplicity and while 22 songs might stretch some people's patience - they are all welcome...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Compilation of Hardy's Early Years!, December 13, 2005
This review is from: Les Chansons D'Amour (Audio CD)
Though this is obviously a "cheapo" release with very sparse information about the tracks and the artist, it is actually a pretty well compiled CD of some of Hardy's best early recordings.

Containing most her of biggest hits like "Ce Petite Coeur", "Tous les Garcons et les Filles", "La Maison ou Jái Grandi" and her only British top 20 hit-single "All Over the World", the CD gives a fine introduction to the most melodic and catchy side of Hardy.

A few harder to find tracks have also been included, among those English versions of some of her biggest hits in France.

For those who are not familar with Hardy's Vogue recordings or who just like intelligent 1960's pop, this CD is highly recommended.

If you want more of the same there is double CD called "The Vogue Years" covering her 1962-67 period brilliantly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Francoise Hardy Revisited, November 9, 2006

In the early 60's I was introduced to Hardy's music while attached to the U.S.S. Enterprise CVA(N)65 by a fellow shipmate. We enjoyed her style and then life took over. Some forty years passed and I thought of her lovely voice. I purchased three of her CD's and her music still is enjoyed. The three CD's I purchased take her early years and one of the three takes her through the 60's to the 2000's. This CD and any other one might wish to purchase is worth every dollar. One other note before the final period, "You don't have to speak french to enjoy this melodious French songstress. (On this particular CD she does some in English.......)

I discovered Francoise Hardy only recently via YouTube and the French Yé-Yé singers of the early sixties. But what a discovery! While I was listening to The Beatles, Paul Revere and the Raiders, The Monkees, etc., I was missing out on these exceptional French singers. I'm just grateful this music is still available and made more accessible thanks to the remastering of many CDs, to Internet videos, and so forth -- and this particular CD is an excellent compilation representing some of Hardy's best work. Her voice is crisp and clean like a cool drink of fresh water, often subdued but just as suddenly explosive so that I quickly found myself humming to the compositions all day long -- even though I don't know French! 22 songs may seem a lot for a single CD, but the tunes are short (as was typical of the era) and will have you playing the CD over and over endlessly. Well worth the buy, and once you start you won't want to stop!

I don't want to seem like a biased fan because this is the only CD I have of Francoise Hardy but I would be interested in getting some of her records. I just a need a few more records before I get a good opinion. This, as it is, is a good start for anyone interested in French pop from the 60s. Only thing I would have wished for is that they didn't include English versions of songs that were sung here in French. Sure they're still nice but I prefer the sensuality of the French language

4.0 out of 5 stars Great intro, pity about the quality, May 4, 2010

Great intro to Francoise Hardy and her unique style. She's one of my favorites from that era.

Pity about the audio quality which is average at best and why I give the CD 4 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive compilation, October 17, 2008
This review is from: Les Chansons D'Amour (Audio CD)
A truly remarkable album containing most of my personal favorites from Hardy. I grew up listening to her, and would probably die doing the same. If you favor words like "timeless" and phrases like "not bound by the boundaries of contemporary fashions", than I advise you to give Francois Hardy- and especially this album a try. The other album of her's that I highly regard is called "all over the world" The tone is sometimes melancholic and sombre, but there are good reasons for that. The words are about love and life, and sometimes can be taken for philosphical. I consider her music an essential part of my life.
Highly recommended!

The poor, miserable Francois Hardy; everybody has a friend, everyone finds love except her. She is allways lonely or left behind, and after all she seems to enjoy her solitude. She narrates it in warm and charming music, soft spoken.

Françoise Hardy has to be one of the coolest singers around! What is further impressive is that she has been doing it for over 35 years. "Partir quand meme" has to be one of the prettiest recordings ever!
