Old Lady Finds a New Love,
By A Customer
This review is from: Chansons Pour Les Pieds (Audio CD)
I thought it couldn't get any better than En Passant! Chansons Pour Les Pieds is great! I do not know a word of French, but I thoroughly enjoy Mr. Goldman's music. The purchase of one CD has currently grown to three, and I'm checking out the purchase of more. If anyone knows of a more recent recording than Chansons Pour Les Pieds, I'd love to know about it. Mr. Goldman you are wonderful, and I'm so glad someone introduced me to your music! Thank you for all the wonderful hours that this music has given me.

This is definitely the best CD I own. French isn't my native langage, so I don't understand 100% of the lyrics, but the songs I do understand are incredible- the rest sounds great too! My favorite songs are #1- Ensemble and #10- Je voudrais vous revoir. My boyfriend gave me this cd originally...and now I have an extra copy (one for each cd player) and on minidisc, so I can listen to it everywhere. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something new, you won't be disappointed!

I'm a recent convert to Goldman. Last year I picked up EN PASSANT on a friend's recommendation. EN PASSANT is good, but CHANSONS POUR LES PIEDS is better. Goldman uses diverse ingredients to create an appealing meal of music. He has a great sense for melody and the studio experience to create carefully textured arrangements. The first cut is a round - when was the last time you heard a pop round? - that works wonderfully. It starts as a spare acoustic piece, builds in additional instruments, and ends up with a full chorus wailing in the background. A wonderful album. I recommend it to the curious.

Great album,

My French teacher brought this album to class so we could listen to it. I absolutely loved it, and bought myself a copy. Since then, I've purchased 7 more Goldman albums, which I listen to all the time.
"Chansons Pour les Pieds" is one of Goldman's latest albums. It includes a wide variety of songs and styles, perfect for those with varied tastes in music. This is a fantastic way to practice your French and listen to great music at the same time! (Even if you don't know any French, it's still really good music.)

Solid album,

J-J Goldman's lyrics may not be as rebellious as they were on his first solo album, but he still knows how to write a good intelligent song. I am more than grateful for his evolution from cheap keyboards to real and varied instruments. This album is really pleasant to listen to, though I think no album can be compared to his masterpiece "Entre gris clair et gris foncé". J-J still has fun making music and it can be felt throughout the album.

Gorgeous package - metal case and thick lyrics booklet, with each song hand-lettered and illustrated in watercolour. I became interested in this album after seeing the video for "Les Choses" and a concert clip of "Et l'on n'y peut rien" on YouTube (stepdancing, mon Dieu!), and it's going to be on heavy rotation on my stereo for the foreseeable future. Goldman is so incredibly versatile - there's romance and mystery here ("Tournent les violons")...and then there's "C'est pas vrai" ("It's not true"), a disco anthem that's simultaneously deeply cynical and infectiously happy. The man is a genius.
