chant & be happy for george,
By A Customer
This review is from: Chant and be Happy! (Audio CD)
after hearing today that someone stabbed george, I felt compelled to put this on and listen again. I was a fan of "Wonderwall Music" thirty years ago, and it has definitely grown on me over the years. This takes up where "Wonderwall Music" left off. Everyone mentions the beautiful "Govinda" but I also love "Bhaja Bhakata-Arati" and the "Hare Krishna Mantra." I really think this music is where George's heart is, he's not the same cat that played the intro to "Roll over Beethoven" as a teenager. As he was being stabbed, he probably was chanting "Hare Krishna." If you even mildly enjoyed Ravi Shankar's side on "Bengla Desh", you should love this.

LISTEN TO THE NECTAR,

This review is from: Chant and be Happy! (Audio CD)
It was during the summer break from college, over thirty years ago, when I first heard Prayers to the Spiritual Master. I discovered it on the B side of the Hare Krishna Mantra single and I am pleased to see it included in this album re-release. Listening to it then produced the most profound effect. It brought tears to my eyes and seemed to fill me up from the depths of my being. I was literally struck with wonder and felt as though I was being given a glimpse of something infinitely precious, some core thing I had lost and long forgotten about, yet which just lay waiting to be discovered when I opened the door within. And this sacred sound vibration was the key. No, I wasn't on anything. All I can say is "Hear it for yourself." Because this is just one of the remarkable tracks on this truly beautiful album that celebrates the devotional tradition. To this day, it stands out as a beacon to those who would record or listen to consciousness changing music. Thanks George, to you and your devotee friends at the temple, for such an offering of love. Yeah man, you can really HEAR the love shining through...

Not as good as the earlier CD version,

I'd be happy to recommend this highly, except for two things:1) The price is high for such a small amount of music, and 2) The earlier CD version had as its bonus track, "Prayer to the Spiritual Masters." With all due respect to the late John Lennon and his widow, listening to them talk isn't why I would buy a CD of bhakti yoga chanting.

These are much more restrained chants than someone like Krishna Rah. I suppose that's reflective of the decade this record was made. This is a light, though sincere and effective, approach to enlightenment. For the average music fan, or the curious Beatle peeble, it will be nothing more than a curiosity, unfortunately. For the spiritually minded, it is a nice set piece, but not the whole cloth.

Nice, soothing, transcendental music for your spirit.,

I had been looking for this recording for some time, so I was surprised and happy that Amazon.com was offering it. I've played it several times since receiving it, and it makes you feel like you're sitting in a Hindu temple. "Govinda" is a wonderful track, but the other tracks are just as moving spiritually. The sound quality is "circa 1969" although since George Harrison was involved, the quality is good. If this disc interests you, I would also highly recommend buying George's "Chants of India" which came out a year or so ago; the sound quality of this disc is superior, and the chants resonate to your spiritual core.

Play it, chant and be very happy indeed! A beautiful album from start to finish. The recording quality is excellent too. I do suggest finding the CD that has "Prayer to the Spiritual Masters" on it. It's the one on Apple Records.Hare Krishna!

How well do I like this album? My original copy which I purchased in the early seventies actually started turning white as a result of repeated playing. Finally it became so distorted that I had to purchase a second one, then a third. This is still going on nearly thirty years later. Thank you, George. Haribol.

Several years ago, I was looking in the International Music section at the Record store, and the Radha Krsna Temple album (an earlier name for this album) popped up at me. When I purchased it and took it home, I was astonished to hear the most beautiful devotional music ever. Several years later, I hear it played any time I visit my Hare Krsna Temple in the mornings, on the request of Srila Prabhupada, the guru who brought this movement from India to the US and UK. High praise, but very well deserved. If you love heartfelt beautiful musuc, you WILL enjoy this album!

George Harrison singing Hindu devotional Kirtans with a temple group from London, circa 1969 or early 70's.There are better collections of Kirtanwalla (now*) - Krishna Das comes to mind: Try: "Breath of the Heart", or "Live on Earth." A collector's item. A good addition if you enjoy Krishna Das or Jai Uttal... but unlike either one of them.

Timeless pleasure...,

I still remember when I bought the Govinda single 30 years ago. I have bought this album later on (on Apple Records) to be sure to always be able to listen to it whenever I crave for spiritual pleasure. I remember working in a Kibbuzt in Israel in 1977 and Radio Peace (a then pirate radio station sailing the Mediterranean sea) was starting its everyday broadcasting with this Govinda song. Then my copy was so used I couldn't barely hear anything and I had cassettes made for me then. But to have this recording on CD is finally heaven on earth - plus: this Canadian edition gives us an excerpt of a conversation between John, Yoko, George and Shrila Prabhupada. DO NOT HESITATE ONE SECOND... BUY IT NOW! ... and, "Hare Krishna!"
