Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Many cookware manufacturers have introduced lines featuring enameled exteriors but Chantal enameled cookware is one of the long-standing originals, providing both excellent performance and colorful flair for your kitchen. This 3-quart saucepan has a gorgeous, high-quality German-made enameled interior and exterior that are resistant to chipping and fading, easy to clean, and encased in stainless-steel rims for added durability. In addition, the nonporous enamel won’t absorb food odors or flavors. A heavy-gauge carbon steel core gives the pan substantial heft and heats up faster than ordinary cookware. This saucepan is just the right size to boil rice for six, melt larger quantities of sugar into a sweet caramel sauce, or reheat four to six servings of soup. The steel-rimmed, tempered glass lid has a high, domed shape, is oven-safe to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, and is transparent so you can cook without removing the lid and letting steam escape. The saucepan’s long, stainless-steel loop handle is designed with patented air pockets to keep hands cool when grasping the handle over a hot stove. In the event that there are leftovers, this cookware is safe for the freezer, plus it is dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning. This cookware is safe for use on traditional, ceramic, and magnetic induction stovetops. Chantal offers a lifetime warranty on the enamel coating. --Cristina Vaamonde

5.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but worth it, August 14, 2007
This review is from: Chantal Enamel-On-Steel 3-Quart Saucepan with Tempered Glass Lid, Cobalt Blue (Kitchen)
I have had this piece for 3 years and use it everyday; it still looks new. I also put it in the dishwasher semi regularly. Chantal does NOT use a non stick coating and is considered a very healthy choice by health food professionals. Also, you will find that there is no need for a coating because food comes off easily. I know first hand because I have been known to burn food in it. Also, I have other high quality cookware put nothing compares to the 2 pieces of Chantal. I hope to buy a full set when my finances will allow it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Better than non-stick for the same uses (if you have a brain)!, August 28, 2010

This review is from: Chantal Enamel-On-Steel 3-Quart Saucepan with Tempered Glass Lid, Cobalt Blue (Kitchen)
I don't like non-stick. It's not that I have anything against teflon when used in surgical implants as it's inert at body temperatures. The idea that heating it up too high can kill birds, however, horrifies me as an asthmatic allergy sufferer. For a long time, I just put up with salt pitting my tri-ply stainless pans, thankless hours scrubbing scalded milk-solid off steel, and rice discoloring those pretty, ex-mirror-finish interiors. Then, I got lucky, and picked up a one quart enamel-on-steel Chantal saucepan at a discount store. I've since ordered the 3 quart in blue, and I've got to tell you... As long as you actually pay attention, and don't use heat higher than medium for anything but bringing water to a boil, these pans work far better at the same tasks (saucing, especially,) than non-stick, without causing pause re: my lungs. The pans heat quickly, evenly, and due to their relative thinness as compared to tri-ply-ware, provide exceptionally responsive temperature control, even on electric coil stoves. This makes the vessels great for perfect control of sauce consistency even in the most basic of kitchens. Cleanup is a snap, and the pans are very pretty to boot. Inert glass-like interiors mean you can store in the cooking pot, usually a no-no in Kitchen Science. The idea of Chantal not being expensive is a crock, but I only buy cookware once, unless the boyfriend does something stupid, and then he replaces it, anyway... I'm very happy with these pans, and will buy a two quart as soon as feasible. If you buy, and you're not an impatient, un-knowledgeable, high-temperature cook, you'll be very happy with Chantal's products. The only negatives I can mention are the glass lids, un-sturdy handles (when hefting 6 lbs of liquid, downright flimsy in fact), and extensive use of welding for the sake of interior seamlessness. However, there have been no problems yet, and it doesn't feel like there will be, as long as one is careful. The best part is, as a fan and owner of several pieces of Le Creuset, Chantal fills in the inadequate yet still pricey slots in the French lineup, with better enamel to boot. This stuff is pretty darned close to win-win... Now if only they offered stainless steel lids and heavier handles!

1.0 out of 5 stars Made in Indonesia --- NOT Germany, NOT France, April 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I thought this cookware was made in Europe (Amazon's review says the enamelware is German) and because of that I could be comfortable that the enamelware was truly lead-free. That is, I thought I was purchasing cookware compliant with European lead standards (which truly require lead-free) rather than USA FDA standards allowing small amounts of leaching lead in cookware to be called "lead-free." When the pan arrived, it was clearly marked "Made in Indonesia." What a dissappointment for such an expensive piece. I have returned the item.
