5.0 out of 5 stars Who's Your Daddy?!?!, November 16, 2008
This review is from: Chante's Song (Paperback)
Chante Chambers is sexy, bright, quick-witted and impatient. What Chante wants, Chante gets, courtesy of Daddy. Daddy is Chante's ex fiancé and boss, Jason McGee. Despite their failed relationship, Chante is Queen Bee and HBIC at Jason's World Productions. Many of men have crossed Chante's path, but none of them can hold a candle to Jason. That is until she meets Mr. Tall, Caramel and Handsome - Keith Simmons. Keith is everything that Jason is not - faithful. Just as a relationship is starting to blossom between Chante and Keith, Jason finally decides he is ready to be the man that Chante has always wanted him to be. Torn between two lovers, the past and the future, which will Chante choose?

In her debut novel, Donneil D. Jackson does a wonderful job of capturing the intensity of an on again/off again relationship. CHANTE'S SONG has something for everyone. There is plenty of drama, flavored with sex and a dollop of romance, to balance this novel. It was difficult to hold back the laughs. The writing, vivid and comical, is the hook. However, this novel falls short with its editing. It was riddled with errors. This flaw is relatively minor compared to the great storyline, but it's because of the errors that it misses the mark of a 5-star rating. Overall, CHANTE'S SONG is an engaging and highly amusing story. Donneil D. Jackson is a refreshing new voice and I look forward to her future endeavors.

4.0 out of 5 stars What's A Girl To Do????, October 21, 2008
This review is from: Chante's Song (Paperback)
Chante Chambers has it all, all the material possessions a girl could want and a great career that has great perks. All of this is financed by her ex, Jason, who is the owner of "Jason's World" where Chante works. Anything Chante wants, Jason makes sure she gets. Only because he lacks the one thing that Chante wants the most, him being faithful. Chante loves Jason but she has to make him part of her history, or so she thinks.

Enter Keith, successful, handsome with all the qualities that Chante wants; the type of man with whom she can live happily-ever- after. He provides everything that Jason did not. He treats her with the upmost respect, but respect is only given where respect is due, something Chante fails to realize. No matter how wonderful Keith is, she still has a problem she cannot seem to shake. That may be the very thing that shakes the foundation that Keith and she have built. Will it be too late?

Donneil D. Jackson does an excellent job with her debut novel, "Chante's Song." She makes the characters jump to life; the emotions and the realism of the characters are so life like. I think, at some point in life, we all have felt some of these emotions. If you have ever been torn about something in your life, than you can definitely relate to this story.

This review is from: Chante's Song (Paperback)
Chante Chambers is a sinfully, scintillating, sensational sexy siren singing her song in hopes of snaring her perfect man. In her quest, she meets several and takes different characteristics to embody 'him. She's constantly sparring with Jason McGee for his love, but he can't seem to stop his wandering eyes or his third leg. Confident in her position with Jason and his company, she issues punishment by way of charging expensive trinkets as well as designer clothes to her expense account at Jason's World.

Keith Simmons, CEO of Pretty Boy Records, has arrived on the scene with his sights set on Chante. The two begin a fairytale romance with a few bumps in the road but nothing they can't master until Chante realizes that she can't stop looking back.

Donneil Jackson's debut novel has a rhythmic flow that is intriguing. The characters are funny as well as charismatic. I see great potential in her style of writing worthwhile reads. But her downfall lies in very poor editing. With a more conscious effort in reviewing and correcting her work, Chante's Song would have been a very, very good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars, January 7, 2010
This review is from: Chante's Song (Paperback)
KC Girlfriends Book Club Reviewers use a specific book review template. These are the five elements that we use to help come up with the score for our reviews:
1. Book Presentation (title, cover and synopsis)
2. Book Price
3. Character Development
4. Storyline
5. Editing

Our reviews will reflect these important aspects that we think should be apart of a book review from an avid reader's prospective.

Book Presentation: 1 pt
I really liked the cover. The seductive scene was very nice but with class.

Book Price: 1pt
The book price seems to be appropriate for this type of novel.

Character Development: 1pt
The main character Chante was funny, believeable in the type of "world" she associated with. All the men were definately believable and kept you on your toes. Chantes friends-girls were a little boring..sometimes.

Storyline: 1pt
I would recommend this book especially to my single friends. This books puts a little twist on Sex and the City with a little african american class and fun r&b tunes that make you think. The book was definately a funny but also at times serious look on dating.

Editing: 0.5pt
the book had quite a few errors that sometime did and sometimes did not disrupt the storyline..the writer flip flop names of the guys/suitors for Chante and you was a little confused. Alot of He instead of She or vice versa. Sometimes missing and, the, is...

Reviewer's Comments:
Fun..a look at a black female in the sex and the city vibe. She may mention labels and materials things a little too much..but this may be the piece that lets you know who Chante is.

Book Review Score: 4.5 Stars

3.0 out of 5 stars Promise, January 17, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Chante's Song (Kindle Edition)
The story was good, comical with an array of colorful characters to enjoy. You already have the synopsis so I won't give one, I will just say that Chante is that typical female that wants to choose the bad boy the one that constantly disrespects and hurts her over the good guy that wants to love her, yets proves he's not a punk, after she betrayed him he treated her as she presented herself, like a confused would rather be mentally abused whore, for a while. Still, though Chante was confused and thought with her 'Palace' I still liked her in a small king of way, I was rooting for her to finally 'know better' and stop holding out hope that she could get Keiths mannerisms and ways in Jasons body. I will say I thought she was learning, until the end. Then is what brought the book down to me, it totally deflated the story, felt rushed and just not realistic. Okay I won't say not realistic but I don't know if the ending was the ending to the book or the epilogue to the NEXT book, it was confusing. The book either basically ended at the end of a general sentence where it shouldn't have, or the ending just sucked because it wasn't an ending. I don't think I will be reading the next book, because of what has already been given away and it's only so much 'old' Tom Foolery I can deal with. If Chante is still thinking with her 'palace' and doing Keith wrong, I'm sorry I can't see him being that sprung and naive or her being that silly, so this is my last book for this series.

This book was comical to me, I found myself laughing and saying 'no she didn't'. Take a ride with Chante Chambers as she journeys through life looking for her BETTER half because she feels as if she met her OTHER half in Jason. Why keep searching?! Jason can't seem to stay faithful; enter Keith. The man who is everything that Jason is not except he's not Jason. As she battles back & forth between the 2 men while trying to keep her friendship afloat. The book well written & the story line was solid, but there were too many errors for my liking. Everything still came together & flowed like I believe the author intended.

1.0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Waste of Time . . ., October 25, 2011

This review is from: Chante's Song (Kindle Edition)
Chante's Song has earned a spot amongst the worst books of 2011 for me. Not only was I not feeling any of the characters, but the story line was all over the place. The only emotion I felt throughout the few pages I read was disgust. How could someone take the time to write such rubbish? I eventually had to just suck my teeth and immediately delete it from my Kindle. I heard another reviewer say that she wanted her $20 back. .. Well, I want my 99 Cents back! Ewww!!
