Truly A SPECIAL EDITION-For DVD Lovers Everywhere!,
By
This review is from: Chants D'Auvergne (W/Dvd) (Spec) (Audio CD)
While every agreed that the 1982-84 Decca recording with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and the English Chamber Orchestra under Jeffrey Tate, of Joseph Canteloube's masterwork (Compiled in five volumes between 1923-1955) is on everyone's list of favorite recordings (Best brought as a twofer Double Decker set, which is still in print), this collection is even better for DVD lovers everywhere! This new Special Edition from Decca featured the DVD of the 1989 Peter Bartlett video production, which featured 16 of the 26 selections that appeared on the CD, with footage of the Auvergne Region of France, and studio footage of Dame Kiri lipsyncing to most of the selections that the DVD appeared. Both the CD and DVD featured the following songs in order of the DVD:
Bailero (A minute shorter on the DVD than on the CD) Trois Bourrees La Pastrouletta e lou Chibalie L'Antouenou Passo pel Prat Lou Boussu Brezairola Malurous qu'o uno Fenno Jou l'Pount d'o Mirabel Tchut, Tchut Lou Coucut Obal, din lo Coumbelo Quand z'eyro Petitoune La-haut,sur le Rocher Te, l'co, te (The listing of the timing is way off by an minute and an half on the DVD, since it's appear on the same cut on the CD, with Postouro, se tu m'aymo) Uno Fionto Postouro While everyone may like this one (I moved at it when I brought a VHS release of this back in 2000, and still do to this day), I perferred the DVD part of the Special Edition over the CD part (Which listed the same 16 selections) to see it on the a DVD player, while for listening to it on the DVD player, I still perferred the Decca Double Decker edition. Neither way, it's still great to buy a copy of it, no matter what edition you want!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I've had this on laser disc for years,
and enjoyed sowing it my friends. When I found it on DVD I bought it for some of them. It's shear pleasure to watch and hear Kiri perform. The photography and the scenery where out standing.

Boy, have we come a LONG way from the days of LPs and Laser Discs. This perfect pairing really impressed me.
You can hear Dame Kiri alone on the CD or have her and some beautiful images of the Auvergne on the DVD - and it is all in one very compact "double-disc" format. This has always been a famous and preferred interpretation by Dame Kiri and Jeffrey Tate and the ECO and has hardly ever been bettered. This DVD will be used muchly as background music and visuals when relaxing or entertaining and it is quite a bargain. Highly recommended. Timothy Wingate Ottawa CANADA

Dame Kiri At Her Very Height,

This review is from: Chants D'Auvergne (W/Dvd) (Spec) (Audio CD)
L'ailo di lopso , kiri , kiri hey!
sung in 1975 and recorded for the first time in 1982 this was a real break through for Kiri Te Kanawa. The language is singable but not understandable like the kind they sing on her Island of New-Zealand Ofcourse we all now that Auvergne is in France But nevertheless this is a recording that one has to have... The second lp / cd is not that good? Chant's d'Auvergne + Cantaloube |
