Product Description

The Howler Multi-Tasker Pro with Windshield windproof fleece is a high tech balaclava with a multi-functional hinge. The windproof face mask provides 100% protection from the elements. The hinged construction allows you to move the face mask portion up and down with ease. This item can be worn as balaclava, a balaclava with face mask or as a neck gaiter. Windshield is a waterproof and breathable fabric that will keep your face warm in the coldest climate. The Lycra binding around the face seals out the elements and the shaped bottom provides full coverage and prevents excessive gathering. This product is excellent for skiing, snowboarding, snow machining, hunting and all cold weather activities.

Perfect for cold weather!
Abi
I have a small head(6 and 7/8) hat size, and the small medium fits pretty snug but not tight.
Mark Palmer
It really does the job well and keeps my head, ears, face and neck toasty warm.

I am outdoors a lot during the winters in Colorado, and I own several balaclavas, from lightweight to heavyweight with Gore Windstopper. This Chaos-CTR Howler balaclava is the best of them all for several reasons:

-Windstopper fabric is soft and flexible unlike Gore Windstopper products which are effective but stiff;
-Mouth covering is more effective than any other for ease of breathing as well as no fogging of glasses or goggles, a big plus;
-the nape goes down farther than any other balaclava, more than covering the entire neck area; it's essentially a windstopper neck gaiter built in;
-the hood hinging means it will come down to your eyebrows, leaving only a small open area for your eyes, or it can be lifted incrementally to expose your forehead, front of head or entire head, and it doesn't make the facemask portion tight on your face as you adjust it. Rather ingenious;
-unlike many balaclavas you don't even know you have it on; it's roomy where it needs to be and snug where it needs to be.

Really, this is the perfect balaclava, and at $15 it's a bargain. Chaos products are high quality outdoor gear.

I normally don't write reviews on things unless they are really great, or really bad. Today was the deal-breaker, and I had to come write a review!

I'm a full time bike commuter in Southern Oregon. This morning's weather conditions were 32F with a 20-25mph wind coming out of the south. My morning commute goes from north to south, so I effectively had between 30-40mph winds on my morning ride. Did I mention it was actively snowing...and the sun wasn't even up yet?

Warm, dry, and comfortable the entire ride! When I say warm and dry...I'm not talking about that "wind getting through, but I'm fine cuz I'm working" kinda warm. I mean that literally no wind was getting through, and my head was perfectly comfortable.

I've also used it on colder but calmer days down to about 18F, and again, perfectly warm! I highly recommend it.

I'm 6', 185lbs, and the Large/XLarge fits my head snugly.

I bought this to put on under my full face helmet when riding to and from work. If you're wondering why I would need something like this under a full face helmet, you probably don't live somewhere like Pennsylvania. I ride to work every day until it gets below 36 degrees. This product fits well and is long enough to go down inside my jacket so the neck area stays warm. It truly is windproof. I'm on the highway daily and this works great for my needs. I'll probably use it snowboarding also on those really cold mountain days.

We bought two of these to protect our faces during the final summit day on our climb up Mount Kilimanjaro. They did a great job in keeping us warm and covered from the elements. The build quality is solid, as are the materials. However, the mesh breathing window CAN be a little difficult to breathe through, and it still allows a lot of breath vapors to flow inside the mask, fogging up goggles and such. Still, it's a good balaclava, and it makes one look like an intimidating ninja. And since ninjas are arguably the coolest people ever, I can't give this any less than four stars.

I'm an avid outdoorsman. I'm constantly hiking, backpacking, skiing, camping, trekking, etc and during the winter months here in the mountains of NC we are known for our fierce weather. If it's not windy and snowing there is a problem with the planet! I've used this Balaclava more times than I can count and have shared this with friends to get them going until we could get back to shelter (got caught in a storm with an unprepared friend).

This is great for stopping the wind.
Being soft on your skin.
Covers your ears, mouth, nose.
Easy to breathe through.
Great fit.
Compacts small.

For the money, this is a great purchase.

I bought this (size L, XL) for bicycling to work in winter (10-30 deg F) to protect my face from freezing winds (even on a calm day, riding a bicycle generates a 10-15 mph headwind). Immediately I found the neck hole to be too tight making it difficult to get it over my head. Furthermore, the face mask fits too tightly across my nose. This pushes in the tip of my nose making breathing annoyingly more difficult. Also by stretching across the bridge of my nose, the mask creates two "chimneys" on either side of my nose, exiting just under my eyes. This funnels hot moist breath straight up to my glasses, fogging them impossibly. The mask is useless as it comes. However, there is a fix (which should NOT be necessary if they would have designed it correctly). The major problem with the mask is that it does not contour your nose. What it needs is a bendable wire across its top edge to conform it to your nose in order to seal off those "chimneys" blowing hot air on your glasses. My fix was to sew to the top edge of the nose piece one of those bendy 1/4" wide plastic twist ties that come on coffee packages from the grocery store. The plastic is easy to sew and the parallel wires at each edge will bend and keep the mask contoured over your nose. Just center it across the mask's upper edge and sew it on the outside (like a very large Breath Rite strip!). I also cut the mouth covering out as it does not exhaust my breath fast enough. Things I do like in the overall design - the hinged top and mask so you can lower the mask, the windproof material, the warmth. My fix does not alleviate the too tight fit, but it does make the mask useable on bitter cold days.Read more ›
