There's plenty of action and a romance as well.
Old Woman
The action just felt a bit over-the-top at times, and some bits (like the name of the main character) felt dated, a bit 1940s or 1950s-ish.

I like to switch to different types of book to read.

In Chaos, the main character is named Cyclone, and I would bet that he is based at least a bit on the author himself. Cyclone was an urban archeologist, but after a horrible accident that left men killed and Cy with painful flashbacks, he turned to a career as a treasure hunter. He left everything behind: his lover, his home, his fellow workers, and spends his time traveling the globe looking for treasure that will be sold to wealthy patrons. In just one day though, the course he was following gets skewered back to what he used to engage in, and Cy is back in New York City to search the hidden underground tunnels that few know about.

I won't give away too much of the plot, but besides the colony of human tunnel-dwellers, there is something that goes bump in the night down there in the sewers and it's capable of chewing grown men in half. Cy also has more on his hands to deal with: a discovered Nazi plot that involves a bomb underground that could blow the city sky-high, and a sexy adventurer who partners up with Cyclone to search for the clues to its existence and location.

Mr. Meyer writes a fast-paced, engaging tale that would make an excellent movie. As I was reading, I was imagining the scenes being played out in Hollywood. This book would fall into the genre of adventure, and I would liken it to the Indiana Jones movies. Character development is barely sketched out because the story is plot-driven, and we are only given the details we need to know to further the story.

This might not have been the type of book I feel most comfortable reading, but it was still a pleasant read for me and I appreciate the talent of the author and his enthusiasm both in real-life and on paper is contagious. Pick it up and go along for the ride!

Cy Reed is an archeologist turned treasure hunter. Most of the story takes place in the New York subway system. There's plenty of action and a romance as well. Cy isn't a super-hero. He's just a guy that doesn't give up.

I liked the story well enough to buy the second book in the series. When the third book comes out, I'll buy that one as well. It's always nice to find an author you like. Give David Meyer a chance.

Agree with other reviewers....stacks up very well if you like Dirk Pitt. Its like many other good action novels, but Meyer adds in setting / environmental details that really add depth. Editing is very good too, unlike many self-publishers. Mr. Meyer: Love historical detail / mechanical detail, never hesitate to throw it in there....its like candy for me, so keep it coming. Your characters have decent depth for an action novel, I hope that continues, especially for those close to Cy. The only criticism I have is a slight one, and common / necessary to the genre in many ways probably...but these folks sure have amazing recuperative powers :).

I look forward to the next book!

I'm having mixed thoughts about this book. The writing style and format were superb. This might be one of the few stories I have read "self-published" and there were virtually no mistakes.

It was catchy but not something entertaining to me.

He takes the unknown and makes it known, twisting and turning untrue facts until you believe it's true. Now that is awesome and again evident in this story. But this story I just didn't like the twists and turns and it must be me that can't comprehend what happened and why.

But in all it was an alright story nothing not to like about it. If you like sci-fi, treasure hunting mixed with mysterious animals.
