This review is from: Chaos and Violence: What Globalization, Failed States, and Terrorism Mean for U.S. Foreign Policy (Hardcover)
Stanley Hoffman is a professor at an Ivy League school and it shows throughout his writing. Although it shows his intelligence, he does need to put it in layman terms. Overall Hoffman does propose some unique ideas and explains them all in some great detail, however all very idealistic.

Getting a bit outdated,

This review is from: Chaos and Violence: What Globalization, Failed States, and Terrorism Mean for U.S. Foreign Policy (Hardcover)
Stanley Hoffman's book has some useful insights on foreign policy. Unfortunately, as many of the examples used are based on the Iraq war, this book has become quickly outdated as events move on there.I would like to point out one error that leaped out at me. Hoffmann casually says on page 200 that a Europe with a falling birthrate needs immigrants. This is ridiculous. Earth's population today is at least twice the number that can possibly live sustainably on this planet. Europe needs a smaller population, and the sooner it gets there the better. Bringing in immigrants will make a bad situation worse, by destroying social cohesion on top of everything else. |
