4.0 out of 5 stars Crappy voice acting, excellent gameplay
Sure we all know that this has the worst voice acting in a video game but luckily the gameplay itself is rather quite enjoyable. 3.0 out of 5 stars A game for fans
The first and most important thing to know about this game is that it is for fans. It's goal is not to wow you with graphics, amaze you with story or even give you an impressive battle system.

The goal of this game is, simply put: fan service.

The entire cast save a few original characters are all hero's or villains from various games. Each...

Sure we all know that this has the worst voice acting in a video game but luckily the gameplay itself is rather quite enjoyable. It's fun how the story is almost similar to Cross Edge which is on PS3 but if you don't like the battle system in Cross Edge where you have the square panels to place your characters on and rather have it be more like the same battle style as like Disgaea or Phantom Brave then this is the game for you. This game is a retail exclusive to Gamestop but online sellers still sell it anyways and Gamestop has it for $10 now but I say once you overlook the voice acting or even just put your tv on mute, Chaos Wars is worth owning to JRPG fans. If you want better voice acting, better crossover characters to find in the game then maybe Cross Edge will be a better choice.

3.0 out of 5 stars A game for fans, August 2, 2010

The first and most important thing to know about this game is that it is for fans. It's goal is not to wow you with graphics, amaze you with story or even give you an impressive battle system.

The goal of this game is, simply put: fan service.

The entire cast save a few original characters are all hero's or villains from various games. Each hero gets an entourage of at least 3 other charters from his or her game and 1 or more villains. The charters bring their own problems and back story into the game, including their own style of combat. Uru (Yuri) turns into a demon god that can clean the field on his own easily, just like in his own game Shadow Hearts, Alice heals like you wouldn't believe, and Brandon Heat from Gungrave has some pretty massive guns with nice distance.

While the gameplay itself isn't all that amazing, it's simple and relativity easy to understand. Unlike other SRPG's Chaos Wars is very forgiving and rather simple, you don't need to be a master of strategy to beat this game. The story is simple and relies on the players willingness to write off how absurd it is in exchange for seeing your favorite characters again. And yes, the voice acting is god awful, I highly suggest switching to Japanese or just muting it all together.

Over all it's a decent play if you're a fan of one or more of the games below. If you're not don't bother, because it's not worth it.

Shadow Hearts
Growlanser
Blazing Souls

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, September 6, 2008
This review is from: Chaos Wars (Video Game)
If you like tactical and intuitive gaming strategies that are fun and unique, then don't get this steaming pile of elephant waste! This game has the absolute worst English voice acting I have ever heard. THE WORST! It's not funny like in those old Chinese martial arts videos. It's HORRIBLE! Switch it to Japanese if you make the mistake or are brainwashed into buying this cereal bowl of vomit!

The story is driven along with mainly faces and text and Japanese voice-acting. I'm sorry but this game could not hold my attention for one day. The fighting works off combos that you will have a LOT of trouble understanding(I understood Final Fantasy Tactics faster when it first came out! EXPLAIN!) The characters are heavily anime influenced, but the story's abysmal. Something about portals and islands and wasting time on a different dimension. And that's EXACTLY how YOU(the player) feel -- YOU're wasting YOUR time(and money) trying to enjoy this game.

The interface is simple to merit Chaos Wars failure of a strategy game. Unfortunetly, I've confirmed a bug that happens every so often you view a large list of items, weapons, etc. that misconstrues the font off the text box and garbles the graphics. I guess they even messed that up. To tell you the truth, get this game if you want to see a failure of a strategy RPG. I couldn't recommend it at a price above 17 or more dollars. Don't buy this fool's gold of what appears to be a promising game! 1.0 out of 5 stars No, the voice acting really is terrible, July 13, 2009
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Chaos Wars (Video Game)
You'd have to be 6 years old to think that the English voice acting in this game is anything other than "bad". The first 5 minutes of a new game are unbearable - a lazy teen boy voice reading the script with no other music or sounds. The visual is a still image completely saturated in blue (no other color), and it slowly scrolls upwards as the teen reads the nonsensical opening lines, with uncomfortably long pauses between sentences. Then you get into the game to find out that all the voices are just as terrible as the opening voice.

Beyond that, there's no real way to tell what's going on in the game, as you have to just watch 2 still-drawn anime characters talk back and forth laid on top of a blurred background. There are more than 2 characters, mind you, but only 2 will fit on the screen. That's the way you follow the story.

I'm sorry, but this is nothing but an totally over-priced, low-budget game in the guise of a hip anime-inspired tactical RPG (which it isn't). I'm returning it today.

Worst voice acting ever heard, I could barely get 20 minutes into this game before I had to shut it off. Don't waste your money!

...and make this masterpiece. I didn't notice the gameplay much, but the voice acting is among the greatest, together with the original Resident Evil. Uru's voice is just phenominal, making it one of the best RPG's ever made in existance.
