3.0 out of 5 stars Good if your a fan, January 22, 2010

This review is from: Chaotic: Shadow Warriors (Video Game)
First I just want to say that, objectively, this game is really average. Nothing really stands out that makes it a great game. In all ways it's just, adequate.

Now if you're a fan of the show, that's probably good enough. I have actually had quite a bit of fun with this game. It doesn't need to be the best game ever. I like the Chaotic show, so this game has just enough to keep me interested. But if you aren't a fan of the show, this game is definitely one you should pass. You can also stop reading this review right here, because from here on out, I'm writing this assuming you have some kind of knowledge of the show.

In story mode, you play as Tom while doing one of two things: exploring or fighting.

Gameplay: Exploring is pretty simple. You can't die. The moment you start taking damage, you port away out of danger. You basically run around getting scans of mugic and battle gear. You keep going until you either run into an ally and a cinematic starts, or you run into an enemy and battle starts.

Battle is turn based. You can attack, use mugic, use special ability or taunt. This is one of the few PS3 games that actually use the motion control. You'll flick the controller in different directions to make attacks more powerful. When the enemy attacks, you're given one of two options, scan or block. Obviously, if you block, you take less damage. If you scan, successfully, you add a monster to your library.

There are a lot of things that are on your HUD that, while the tutorial does explain what they are, it's a lot to take in and I'm still not sure what half the stuff means yet. Maybe if you've played the card game, you'd know better what these stats are, but I've never played it. In any case, I'm making my way through it okay.

Graphics: are passable. I can't really say I was wowed by them. But they're adequately decent. Maxxor looks like Maxxor. Intress looks like Intress. But that's about all I can say about it.

Fun: I've played better, I've played. worse. Really, it's not much to write home about. It's a good distraction. I'm having about as much fun with it as I've had with other average games. As I said before, if you're a fan of the TV show, this really does have the feeling of the show. You go into Perim in order to get scans that you can use in battle. If you like the show, it's probably worth checking out. Just don't expect too much from it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Gaming cartoon Makes a decent game., January 13, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Chaotic: Shadow Warriors (Video Game)
The First thing you should ask yourself before buying this
is "do I love the show or the card game" if it's the card game
you most likely will not like this. if it's the show you like well,
you're in for a treat. all the voice actors lend their talents (from the tv show) the graphics while not ground breaking by any stretch are fair and clean.
you begin in perim with naught but your trusty scanner
and your adventure begins by meeting one of the overworlders
(which is auto scanned. it seems some are just givin to you and enemies you MUST scan) a few interesting motion controls for the battles keep it interesting. otherwise it would be your standard turn based battles.
this is why I only gave it four stars since it looks and is advertised more as a "fighting game" and yet is a turn based action RPG for the most part.
there's a lot of platforming elements and weird bug enemies you must shoot with your pyroblaster and it's not 100% effective all the time and has very low ammo. so conserve it.
the puzzles aren't too hard nor is the platforming (I missed a jump by about a half inch and it pulled me to the object. I liked that.)
so while it's somewhat fun for an adult (like me)
I Imagine kids that are fans of the show will love it. you can get ALL the main characters and even Battle in Ranked matches online.

Graphics: 3 1/2 of 5 clean and colorful but looking last gen.

Sound: horrid noises but excellent voice work make it 4 Stars

Gameplay: very simplified and easy to learn 5 stars.

Fun: 4 out of 5 stars. the game can get fairly repetitive at times.
and there's a few of those annoying "fetch quests" but the battles are a blast and so's scanning your favorite critter (such as Maxxor!)

Overall: while not a Perfect game in any sense it's well worth a look at it's price of 29.99 to 39.99. 4 stars overall.

3.0 out of 5 stars Chaotic : Shadow Warriors, July 6, 2011
= Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Chaotic: Shadow Warriors (Video Game)
I have no previoues knowlege of the card game or the tv show before i bought this game i just picked it out cause i like turn based stragety games and i must say that i find the game fun and a good way to pass time away. Its got good game play and a good turn based fighting system,, its not hard to learn and pick up what to do as you progress through the game ,, I give it a 3 star rating cause its an average game in all aspects,,The only negative complant i got is that the booklet manual does not have enough info in it explaning the game and the stats of the game it needs to be more detailed with pics going along with explanation of the mugic spells and the characters and so on,, I know the in game tutorial explains all this but it would be nice to be able to refer to it in your booklet when needed as most games do this,, but all in all its still a good average game that i enjoy playin.
