Nice Pictorial . . . .,
By
This review is from: Chaparral: Can-Am & Prototype Race Cars (Motorbooks Classic) (Paperback)
Very well done pictorial collection, but don't expect much more. The photo captions give a very shallow insight and historical account of this great race car. Much of the meager text is a rehash of information already out there pertaining to the Chaparral's. True Can Am and Sport car race fans will find this book disappointing and lacking from any kind of technical or informational point of view. Still, for the Can Am fan, whether hard core or those of casual interest, this book is a must have.

Excellent photos combines with an easy to read text. This book provides a good background and is a must for any Can Am or Jim Hall fan. If you can only have one Chaparral book Falconer/Nye version is preferred

A PERSONAL ACCOUNT OF HISTORY OF THE MARQUE,
By "burks74" (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Chaparral Can-Am and Prototype Race Cars (Hardcover)
Being a child of the sixties and growing up as a fan of sports car racing during that era, this book truly brings the personal side of Jim Hall and his Chaparrals to the fore-front. Jim Freidman does an exceptional job in his writing as well as candid photography of the racing team during that glorious period. With quotes from Hap Sharp, Phil Hill, Roger Penske, as well as scores of other great drivers, the reader becomes a part of racing history we will never see again.Thank you Jim Hall for sharing your memories!

I was one of the fortunates that got to see the Chaparrals race! I never forgot it and forty years later they look as modern as they did in the 1960s. Lots of neat photos, but unfortunately, none in color. Sigh. I don't know why so many motor books are chock full of B&W! I love these cars, so no matter. Still recommended!

Chaparral Can-Am and Prototype Race Cars,

This a really informative book. Even though it is centered around pictures, the captions are very informative. The pictures are excellent and great references for mechanical details of the various Chaparral models that were almost always hidden from prying eyes and cameras at racing events. The pictures together with the captions give a very detailed history of Jim Hall and his cars. From the captions I was able to get enough clues to track down Jim Hall's background in the oilfield on the internet; he was always referred to as a millionaire Texas oilman. I give this book a Strong Recommendation.
