4.0 out of 5 stars For soccer and mystery lovers!, May 17, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Chapel of the Ravens (Audio Cassette)
Engene is such a pro at dramatization that it's a pleasure to listen to anything and everything he reads. This story about the often violent game of soccer takes place in Britain and L.A. Engene handles the accents, as he handles all narrative challenges, with ease and precision. The intrigue of the tale, involving a woman in a veil and a murdered goalie, are intensified by changes in Engene's pacing, breath control, and emphasis. Ian Chapel, a one-eyed British goalie, becomes an investigator in order to find out who murdered his predecessor and who's threatening his life. Very brutal and violent to some and definitely incredibly political, soccer and mystery fans will enjoy.
