For all of those complainers out there whining about the so-called censorship on this "uncensored" Chappelle Season Two DVD set, read on...it seems the biggest tirade is about the pixilated breasts during the Rick James sequence at the China Club. Well, there is good reason for that pixelation...the pixelation is to give the viewer the idea that there were bare breasts there when there really was not...they were really covered up! If you watch the "outtakes/blooper" reel, you'll see clearly (and UN-pixelated) that the women at the bar have dark covers over their breasts, but the pixelation made them look bare.

Had they not had these covers on, this DVD would NOT have censored it. And ask yourself why they pixelated that when, during the Oprah sequence, Dave was painting a VERY NAKED woman who was NOT pixelated at all...and was 100% in the buff. Think about it!

It's really a shame when reviews have to resort to something like this, but I felt I owed it to Dave, Neal and their genius comedic talents to let everyone know what they were complaining about was really absolutely nothing! So, instead of WRONGLY complaining about pixelated breasts (which you were wrong about anyway), spend your time watching this hilarious set for the sole reason it was created for - making us laugh!

The second season of Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show not only shined light years beyond the first season, it outdid it in every way. Comedian/host Dave Chappelle took his penchant for satiring race relations and pop culture to new heights, with memorable skits that will leave the viewer laughing hysterically, no matter who they are. Skits include Dave portraying the black president if Bush were black, various moments in the life of rapper Lil' Jon, Paul Mooney assuming the guise of Negrodamus, and of course, the infamous episode where Chappelle's Show cast member Charlie Murphy (brother of Eddie) recalls an incident with the late Rick James. What will have you laughing even more are Dave and rappers Q-Tip and Snoop Dogg, with the assist of some puppets, enlightening the children of the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases, and a guest spot by Wayne Brady that will change the way you look at the former daytime TV host. With guest stars like Brady, Jamie Foxx, Lil' Jon, Nick Cannon, and so on, Chappelle's Show came into it's own in it's second season. The DVD release is mostly uncensored (most of the nudity is still blurred) and the special features are mostly better than those featured on the scant first season release, including unaired Charlie Murphy stories, an extended interview with Rick James, and a hilarious blooper reel/deleted scenes that features a commentary from Dave himself.

Although I enjoyed the Chappelle Show Season 1 set, I was a bit dissapointed and thought that they could have included more in terms of extra bits, behind the scenes footage, etc. Its become common since DVDs became more common, and these kind of extra features have almost become expected of filmmakers and TV broadcasting companies. With that said it was refreshing to get my hands on Season 2 of the Chappelle Show and see a few extra goodies that totally made the purchase that much more worth it.

Highlights on this set for me included Dave's 'Training Day' ride with Wayne Brady, Charlie Murphy's Rick James segments, and the Charlie Murphy bit about playing ball with Prince. Included in the extras are several great segments, including more Charlie Murphy interviews, an extended Rick James interview, and some behind the scenes standup of Dave's that is not included during the show. On the negative side and worth note is the fact that Comedy Central felt it necessary to throw a plethora of ads at the viewer on this DVD set, and I personally was able to overlook this small issue because the rest of the total package is just fantastic.

Summary:
Pros- Extra content beyond the basic episodes, and the episodes themselves.
Cons- Lots of annoying Comedy Central ads.
Overall- Despite the ads, this is a great purchase and will have you laughing yourself silly over and over.

Up until last week, I was only vaguely familiar with Chappelle's Show. I had seen a few skits, and I knew it was funny but I hadn't gotten around to watching much of it. After purchasing Season Two, a friend of mind invited me over and we watched an episode. We ended up watching the entire season that day along with some of the special features. The next time I was at the mall I picked it up for myself.
Not many tv shows have made me laugh nearly as much as this has. Between Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories, and Chappelle's take on a children's educational puppet show, this is well worth the $25-30 you'll pay for it. Aside from a couple dull moments (maybe I'm the only one who doesn't find poop jokes all that funny), the season is consistently good. There are a few moments that shine above the rest, like the ones I mentioned above and a particular exchange of words between Wayne Brady and some prostitutes, but just about every episode has replay value.
The musical guests don't usually appeal to me, but if you're like me then it's not hard to fast-forward. It certainly doesn't hurt the show at all.
It's also probably worth mentioning that the show is very vulgar and sensitive people will probably be offended by it, as they have a tendency of doing. This is where the most of the show's funniest moments are though, so be warned.

First, I gotta be honest. Season one was rather hit or miss for me. At times, Dave struck pure comedy gold. At other times, it was just kind of a "meh" affair. A number of classics emerged from the very good first season, but Dave still had a few kinks to work out until he found just the right balance. In season two, it's perfected.

Bravo.

If, God forbid, he never returns to do season three, Dave's still going to attain that whole "legend" thing. This isn't the first time a television show pushed the envelope (All In The Family, Saturday Night Live, In Living Color, etc.), but as far as pure anti-political correctness goes, it's never been pushed this far before. But here's the good news: Chappelle's Show isn't a hot topic because of the controversy. People like this show because it's friggin' hilarious.

On stage, Chappelle has an every man quality about him. Kind of calm, relaxed; he's funny, charismatic and knows how to talk to the crowd. In the skits, though, is where his talent really shines. He just exudes so much energy with these bizarre characters he plays. And his comedic timing and mannerisms are flawless. Lots of hard work seems to be put into these skits; Dave and his team are to be commended for such a job well done.

For whatever the reason he left, I hope Dave can fix everything, get better and come back. In today's ultra-PC America, people with a sense of humor NEED him to come back.

You rock, Dave.

No sophomore slump for this guy. The second season is even more a riot than the first, thanks largely to his impersonations of Rick James and Prince. Bringing Charlie Murphy onto the show was a masterstroke and he delivers these sketches with dead pan precision. Chappelle has such a tremendous range and razor sharp humor that one is reminded of a young Eddie Murphy. His "Black Bush" is spot on, a perfect send up to the current administration. The "Racial Draft" cuts across racial lines in an amusing farce of inter-racial celebrities. Then there are "The Time Haters" who go back to the antebellum days of America to free the slaves, and his side-splitting spoof on "Samuel Jackson" beer. The second season is jammed pack with great sketches and I hope that Dave will get his act together soon so that we can enjoy another season on Comedy Channel. In the meantime one can enjoy his first two seasons uncensored and unblurred in all their glory.

Chapelle's show is hands down the funniest show ever. And as if Season 1 wasn't hilarious enough he totally outdid himself with season 2 with the 2 charlie murphy true hollywood stories. The one being when Prince and the time played basketball against him and his boys with Chappelle as Prince. And the second is the greatest ever and that's Charlie Murphy's encounter with Rick James at Studio 54 with Chappelle as Rick James and the REAL Rick James on it. So get buy Season 2 or else you're gonna find out what the 5 fingers said to the face!

My husband and I love the Chapelle show on TV, but of course we miss a lot of the "inuendo" with all the bleeps on public television. Call me crass, but I like the skits better with all the language included.

Another hit in my opinion.

Season 1 and 2 of Chapelle's Show are amazing, and it is a shame that we no longer have his very witty, very intelligent truth-telling regularly on air. Dave Chapelle is a brilliant satirist, who isn't continuing his show mostly because so many people can't -- or don't want to -- understand what he is saying. His skits explore the hypocrisy inherent in American society, especially concerning race. However, he is equally critical of both black and white. More than anything, he is usually commenting on people who say one thing when they mean another, people who insist on being oblivious to the wrongs around them, and likewise, the people who blame their misfortune on racism when it is usually the result of their own shortcomings. He also mocks the attention given to many of our celebrities and mocks celebrity culture in general, often bringing on the celebrities themselves to participate in his commentary (Skits with Rick James and Wayne Brady are but a few). He is brilliant. These DVDs are terrific, and he will be missed!

Dave Chappelle had one of the funniest shows in the history of tv. Show after show pushed the political correctness lines with racy, sexual, and in-your-face social satire. Make sure you add this baby to your collection. You may never see anything like it again.
