I just finished putting this grill together by my self. I used a small cart to set the base on while I worked. If I had a helper at the time I could have really used one. The assembly took me about 40 minutes total. This thing is HEAVY and weighs in at 190#. I use to buy Weber grills but the wheels always fell off. This is a strong unit and has beefy legs and wheels.

The cooking space is huge. I bet you can fit 30 burgers at a time. The grill has adjustable coal rack that allows for slower or faster cooking. It also has a heavy duty ash tray.

The price here seems ridiculous as I purchased mine on sale at Orchard Supply Hardware for $225. The regular price is $299.00. This is a great grill and should give you many, many years of service.

I got the CB940X after finishing an outdoor kitchen and wanted something nicer looking than my ancient yet trusty Mecco. I've used all sorts of charcoal grills (about 50 years grilling now) and I like the flat bottom ones with adjustable height. This one is so heavy the packaging got banged up (seems to be a common issue), although this one was trucked from the OEM site (winter sale 25% off, free shipping). It really helps for two people to move and put together, the trucker would only drop it in the driveway.

Pros, it:
- has cast iron grates, which sear and hold temperatures nicely.
- seems to hold temperatures except around the edges.
- it looks very nice.
- it's the most heavy duty material I've owned, excepting a custom made smoker/grill.
- the cast iron grill lifting tool is pretty cool, looks nice but I'd be careful about dropping it on concrete.

Cons:
- the charcoal grid has some major design flaws, FOR THIS PRICE IT SHOULD BE BETTER, coals fall off the end and the heat does not go to the edges well. I grilled a bunch of veggies and kabobs last time and had to keep rotating them around. Come on guys, spend an extra buck and fix this common complaint. At first I thought I was sent a charcoal pan for a smaller grill.
- the charcoal grid slants up at the front and back, and coals or small wood lengths won't reside there.
- the handles that raise the charcoal grid stick out of the lid when it comes down (at the higher settings) and can get pinched.

There are more expensive wagons, but I replaced a CB-940 that I had for 30 years with this one. Who gets a moderately priced grill to last 30 years? Char-Broil.

This grill was relatively quick and easy to assemble but parts of the process are definitely easier with 2 people, particularly mounting the hood to the body. Also, it is about impossible to attach the Char-Broil plastic logo to the front, so I am going to use those 2 holes in the hood for something useful instead, like hanging hooks.

There are deficiencies.
1) The cutting boards arrived with some checking (splits) and they are a single piece of soft pine, apparently. Needless to say these will warp and split further if left exposed to the elements. I have sanded them down already and applied mineral oil, and I keep them indoors. (RECOMMEND HAND WASH ONLY!!)
2) There is no hook to hang the cooking grid lifter tool on. Annoying.
3) The charcoal grate suspension mechanism has 2 major annoyances. First, charcoal falls of the end, because there is a large gap on each end and the sides. Second, when raised to the highest level, the lid of the grill is difficult to put down. However, to be fair, it is probably not that likely that a user will lower the lid if they have the coals at the highest position. I am going to heat these up and bend them inwards to resolve this but it is a design flaw.
4) There is no accessories hook rack (see point (2) above). No place to hang the tools.

Do not presume that annotances 1-4 mean I do not love this grill! 4****

Our family has had a Char-Broil 220a since I can remember, so that is at least 45 years. This (CB 940X) is the modern, Chinese made replacement. Most people do not have the old 220a for a side-by-side comparison, but after 45 years of camaraderie around "old faithful", I could not help make the comparison after firing up this new guy next to the old one After first use, I can confirm that this guy is the real deal.

The good:
The other reviewers are not mistaken; this thing is heavy. Surprisingly, it is heavier than the US built original. Like the original, it appears to be nothing spectacular, but it is. This baby has unencumbered space and gets hot (needs less charcoal than you would think) like no other standard charcoal grill I have ever experienced - a must for mass hamburger, etc cooking. The original was pretty flimsy in the sheet metal department but not this one.

1). This model has handy wood trays on both sides compared to just one on our original. I don't know how we made it work with just one surface before. As mentioned by others, the wood blocks that go in them are of dubious quality (tallow tree?) and don't fit just right due to the wood being warped as well as the shape of the trays that they fit in and due to the screws attaching the metal tray protruding where they should have been countersunk. We ended up having one sit grooved side up (groves intended to allow space for the fasteners?) and have the other flipped as it was warped ins such a was as to make it rock like a rocking chair. I would like to have some nice ones custom could have also bought some peel and stick rubber bumpers to put on the back side. Besides, there are now two work surfaces, and, unlike the original, they are removable.
