From 2.5 Years Ago

Like others it did take me more time than I thought it should have to assemble this grill, but overall I like it.

PROS
Small footprint, it works nicely on my porch
Even, high heat cooking that thus far has resulted in GREAT tasting chicken, pork and steaks
Easy to ignite
Easy to keep clean

CONS
I'm pretty handy, but it took me nearly 1.5 hours to assemble this grill
The paint ... Come on CharBroil .. How about using some real high temperature paint? Mine has started to slightly bubble up on the surface of the lid after using the grill a scant 4 times

UPDATE: 6 months later
Grill is still going strong. Really great for cooking steaks, hamburgers & dark meat chicken. Great taste for those meats without charcoal. Much harder to cook chicken breast in this grill and have it come out moist due to the relatively high temps generated by this grill.

UPDATE: 11 months after purchase
Paint on the grill's lid interior has now begun to peel off in large pieces. Other than that, this Charbroil still works great. The grill itself does take some work to clean each time I use it. Grill has also developed a light patina of rust that has to be wire brushed before each use. Product would last longer if it were all stainless. The high heat generated by this grill kills the paint. Hoping to get at least 2 years out of this grill ... We'll see.

UPDATE: 30 months after purchase
PROS: One of the best grills I've ever owned in terms of ease of use and taste of food; nuff said. I'm ordering another tonight. Highly recommend this grill.
CONS: Paint continued to peel off; used a motorized blower to clear it from time to time.

Great grill for the first year. No hot spots - good searing capabilities. Charbroil advertises this grill as having a stainless steel grill surface or grate but I have never seen stainless rust. I have had this grill 2 years and it has been on my back porch, out of the elements, and the grill grate is completely RUSTED OUT to the point of falling apart. I was told by Charbroil that it WAS stainless steel and that had used it too much and I would have to purchase a new one at $42.00. If you buy this grill, be prepared to buy a new grate about every 2 years (Charbroil did say it was made in China so I guess you really don't know what type of metal it is).

I purchased the Patio Bistro grill back in 2012 through Amazon, and got the grill a couple of days before Memorial Day (how's that for timing??). I did a review here at the time, but since then the original reviews were removed by Amazon. So, since I have had this grill now for two years, it's time to revisit the Patio Bistro, and review the two years I've used the grill. For starters, this Patio Bistro grill is fantastic for cooking food on. With CharBroil's infrared technology, food comes out juicy and tasty. You can't go wrong with any kind of meat/chicken/seafood you put on the Bistro to cook. The assembly took me about 1 1/2 hours to do, but after that, I could see how CharBroil gets consistently great reviews for their line of infrared grills. Food is cooked at high temperatures, but using infrared heat, not direct flame, allows food to retain it's moisture, not dry out the food through regular direct flame cooking (which heats the air, and dries out the food). Great char marks on steaks, chicken, pork chops, etc. plus the moisture and smoke created from cooking enhances the flavor of the food on the grill. With 240 sq. inches of cooking surface plus 40 sq. inches for the warming rack, you can easily cook for 2-3 people on the Patio Bistro. Wood chips can be placed directly onto the grill surface for that smoky flavoring. No need to soak chips, or even to put chips in a smoker box or aluminum foil. Just throw some chips onto the heated grill. and in a couple of minutes, the chips will start smoking. One thing I saw online about this grill is that you can cook bacon directly on the grates, with no grease flare ups. That is completely true, as I did it to see if it could be done, and the Bistro cooked the bacon for the burgers I was making.Read more ›

I have had this grill for about a year now. I use it at least once a week if not two or three times a week and so far, so good.

As others have said, it did take a bit of time to put it together, but not really a big deal if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. I can't remember about the assembly directions, but best I recall they were okay.

The cooking grate has held up fine, but I keep the grill in my garage and completely out of the elements. I can't speak to how it would hold up outside with some moisture.

Lights easily. My advice is to be sure that the burner is lit - let the electric ignition pop several times and look/listen for the flame. It is not hard to tell when it is lit.

Heat is relatively even across the grill. Gets really hot really fast. One down side might be that it won't get to a low enough heat for some cooking applications but I have found that if I don't let it get smoking hot to start, I can keep the heat down somewhat.

The pros:
Affordable, relatively speaking
Small and fairly easy to move around
Relatively small footprint for storage in the garage
Very efficient with propane - a bottle lasts a LONG time compared to previous multiple burner grills I've had
Gets plenty hot with no apparent hot spots to speak of and gets hot quick!

If I have to come up with some cons, let's see ... :
Grate is not the easiest to clean (but not the hardest either)
For some folks, could be a real pain to put together out of the box
As I mentioned, the heat might not get low enough for some cooking appications

Overall, a great little grill that I would recommend.
