4.0 out of 5 stars Works well but certainly not perfect
I received this as a gift and have used it about four times so far. It was OK to install, but interestingly enough the brackets don't fit my Thermos grill all that well. Surprising since both the grill and rotisserie are made by Charbroil.

The motor mount won't adjust quite enough to allow the spit to turn without hitting the lid of the grill. I compensated...

The motor on this unit is so worthless that it lasted on my grill only about 30 minutes before complete burn-out. I was so disgusted with it I don't even want a replacement motor from Charbroil. The grill I purchased from them (at Lowe's) works fine but the rotisserie motor Manufacturer/Supplier ought to be taught a course in quality control. By the way I purchased a...

I compensated by slightly propping the lid open ~1\4". You may have to remove the grills themselves to allow the food to turn freely.

I was able to cook two chickens at the same time without much difficulty, but it would be nice if you could buy a second set of prongs to better hold multiple pieces. Overall, for the money, it's a great tool and the resulting food turned out delicious everytime.

By the way I purchased a "no-name" motor and it works fine. We live and learn.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple and makes excellent food!, May 11, 2006

I believe the trick to setting it up is to try NOT to use the brackets that came with the kit! Buying a "universal" kit means that you're going to get everything you need to set it up with a dozen different grills, however, that doesn't mean that you have to use everything that comes with the kit!
I only used one bracket, to hold the motor and on the handle end I just let it rotate on the groove of the grill itself.
The rotating action allows the juicies to stay inside the roast or animal and it stays there allowing your food to be juicy and tender in a way that cannot be duplicated in the oven!

1.0 out of 5 stars Weak Motor, May 26, 2007

I bought this rotisserie about a year ago. I would not reccommend it. The motor almost always bogs down and eventually shuts off. You have to babysit it and manually tun the handle to get the motor turning again. It seems that the motor just isn't powerful enough. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk.....

3.0 out of 5 stars Finally perfection, December 7, 2006

While the unit may or may not be "universal", it was easy to attach to my charbroil grill.
As you may have read with others, the first motor would quit after about an hour. Second motor (same type) failed after about 1/2 hour. Third motor (different type, plastic instead of all metal) was great. Tested all different types of food and ended up cooking a 13 lb turkey, with stuffing. It turned for over four hours and was most excellent. While it took some hassle and some time, they finally made it right. I was out $6.45 extra for shipping/

As stated previously, "universal" it aint. But after modifying the motor bracket, I was able to grill a pork tenderloin to perfection. Had been trying for over three months to get one from Char-Broil but their customer service is a no-star. Finally decided to go with Amazon and I had it in one week. Took about an hour to modify and level it and the results were outstanding.

Well, "universal fit," it ain't. Fortunately, I had tools to relocate some holes in the metal brackets. The spit and motor are some pretty heavy-duty hardware, and the whole assembly works flawlessly. So far, I've only used it with whole chickens, which came out perfectly. I mean, really tasty! It would be nice to have a second pair of prongs, though. Well worth the price ($35.80 on Amazon)

1.0 out of 5 stars Motor burned out immediately, August 9, 2006

I found this to be pretty easy to put together, and was pleased with how it was cooking a 4 lb. roast (it is supposed to handle up to 10 lbs.) However within a half hour of cooking the motor burned out -- the unit was still getting power, but wouldn't turn. I am waiting for my replacement -- I will give one more chance -- so hopefully that one will fare better.
