I find this real convenient for the occasional smokeout. Ok so I may not be an avid Q'er but these chips release their essence over a pretty long period when soaked long enough. Because they are chips, my preheat time is a lot less than logs or chunks. I usually soak in lukewarm water for 10 minutes or half hour in cold water and put em in little home-made al-foil packets with holes. The warm water actually softens the wood more so the smoke is long and slow. Really great on ribs and poultry. So good am now a repeat buyer.

Yeah shows how much of a life I have, reviewing wood chips but hey money doesn't grow on trees and a little feedback on any product helps right. Just used a handful of these in the Old Smokey to do some ribs and jerky, these were perfect, not near as strong as using hickory and has little more flavor than using apple or maple. Shipping was fast as well.Perfect for doing beef and pork, have to try it on deer next.

I used these chips to smoke a Turkey for Thanksgiving. Everyone said it was the best smoked turkey ever. It came out woth a great flavor but was not really spicy - like you would expect from Tabasco.

Ok I don't really shop around much for variations of some products. I tend to find something, like it and stick with it. These Charbroil Mesquite chips are really good. The flavor is intense and the meats/poultry gets that nice deep pink/red color that's the quest of Q lovers. The packs are handy for the occasional smoke that I do (don't have time for more). I usually soak in warm water for 10 minutes to get them in the smoker quickly. My smoker is the home made variety of aluminium foil packs and they last for about an hour. They work surprisingly well for grilling directly when I need the smoke flavor without the wait. I just add a handful in the packet with another handful directly over the lava rocks for lots of smoke in a short time.

I bought these hickory chips to use in my masterbuilt electric smoker. the chips work very well they give off a nice smoke and flavor. the chips are just the right size for my smoker & I'm happy with the results these chips give. there is not much else to say about these wood chips. they arrived dry there was no musty smell to them they cost more then our local store charges but they were sold out. would I buy this again probably not just because of the price of the 2 pound bag if it was a 3 pound bag then I would buy again.

A little pricey, but a better price through Amazon than in my local stores. I smoked a turkey with this, to rave reviews - excellent smoke flavor and aroma. When I would take the turkey out of the refrigerator, the scent would permeate the entire kitchen, and everyone I served it to thought it was fantastic.

Good chips, but a LITTLE GOES A LONG WAY! An hour of smoke (real smoker) will over whelm almost any meat. Mix this into a 1 to 3 ratio with a lighter wood like Apple or Cherry. Don't recommend mixing this with Hickory chips; too strong a smoke.

Color Name: Hickory
I figured all hickory chips are basically the same; these prove that they're unfortunately not.

I used Kingsford hickory chips (green/tan paper bag) all last summer in my old Weber, and grilled up some of the best BBQ chicken I've ever had.

I recently ran out of the Kingsford, and picked up these Charbroil chips at the hardware store.

I used the same technique as usual (soaking chips, putting in tinfoil, placing on coals, let smoke for final 15 minutes) and the flavor just wasn't the same. Not bad, per se, but not nearly as tasty as the Kingsford. These chips imparted a slightly more bitter, smokey flavor, instead of the stronger hickory flavor of the Kingsford.

Unless I just got a bad batch, I would say you should go with a different brand of chips; I recommend the Kingsford.

Happy grilling!
