About the Author

While living in Toronto, Renko balanced Treasury bill accounts totaling billions, promoted fetish parties in nightclubs and practiced Zen meditation. After witnessing an abduction that led to murder, a rooming house fire that left 30 homeless, and a gruesome stabbing murder right before his eyes, Renko moved to Tofino, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, where he built a small cabin in a patch of old growth and began surfing and writing hard-boiled fiction. An injury in twenty-foot surf led him to the lower mainland, where he now lives. Char Broiled is his first novel.

Char Broiled by Renko Styranka is a gripping and intense read that will pull you into the underworld of the organized drug trade and the sociopaths that call this place their home. Renko's characters and settings are well researched and vivid ranging from his main character "Char", the mixed martial artist/Afghan vet who penetrates the cloak of the gang scene to "Ramona", who under her perfect skin lies an evil temptress who doesn't hesitate to dominate and suck the life out of her prey. When I had to put the book down, it was in my thoughts until I was able to read more. The ending was surprising and fitting that made me wish there was more. I hope Renko has a sequel to this well written book. I look forward to more of his work.

A fast-paced, sophistocated read that is centered around the criminal elements of Canada's Vancouver. From seedy motels to opulent mansions the main character Char weeds his way through the felonious labyrinth of the drug world. Char's clever dialogue and sarcastic observations of human nature makes this a most enjoyable book. Hope to read more from this author!!

Great and fun read! I enjoyed it from start to end. It kind of ended abruptly, but it tied up most of the loose ends. I looked to see if there was another book in the series, but couldn't find any.
