what i like about dark tranquility is the fact that they are willing to experiment with their music. i feel that all their albums are great. in character they use melody and brutality, it has a very fast sound to it compare to their more recent albums. if you are interested in getting into dark tranquility then i recommend that you first get this album or you should try the damage done album. most bands usually have at least one bad album but i don't think dark tranquility has ever produce a horrible album yet and this cd lives up to dark tranquility's standards.

Well for the fact that I have listened to this album for over 50 times in 2 months that has to tell you something right? This quickly just became one of my favorite albums from all bands (and one of the other favorite ablum is Haven :D )

Dark Tranquility is one of the few bands out always keep what the good at, obviously their melody is always there, the vocal is just so dark but great at the same time. I agree this album is lot heavier than their previous ones, but the melodies are just beautiful in each song. This is an album every song is a good song. Something you might not find is a little bit of clean vocals here and there in this album that something they do every now and then in their songs; this album is pure dark/groaning vocals. You might not get used to it at first, but after you finsihed listening to it, you'll listen to it over and over again... just like me :D

I always enjoyed Dark tranquility, and Character leaves no doubt about the quality of this band...its quite strong, it as soul, strength and...character. In my opinion, Dark tranquility have reached a level of status in the death metal scene that only a few other bands have reached...Character, not their best work, but still, good and worthy to listen.

....I recently came accross Dark Tranquility after hearing a comparison to In Flames. And being a huge In Flames fan that I am...I decided to check them out.

So, basically I set out to the local Best Buy, and suprisingly they actually had a good selection from DT's catalog of albums.Which was amazing, because usually I find myself dissapointed when I run to best buy expecting to find that awesome metal CD I wanted to purchase. Anyways, just thought I would use this as an opportunity to bitch. Continuing on...I left with the intent of buying "damage done" and when I got to best buy, I found they had a newer CD out! "Sh*t!! which one do I buy?" i said to myself. So, I took a gamble and bought both! "Damage done" is great but "character" really caught my ear.

My Review (finally):
Jaw dropping guitar licks, and killer drum fills! DT keep your attention with ever changing tempos, and melodic breakdowns. No repetition here! If you enjoy the likes of In Flames...its safe to say you will like dark tranquility also. Dont get me wrong, this is no in flames wanna be's. They definitly have their own sound. So please dont give me the "in flames suck, DT are so much better. There is no comparrison. This guy is an idiot!" b/s. Anyways, Great vocals, and talented musicians. Enjoy!

The cool thing about this album is that you can hear
influences from all their past work but still this is
something completly fresh and original and it really
stands on it's own because it's unlike anything they
ever done before. The speed is alot higher and the
keyboards sound amazing, Stanne vocals haven't been
this good since The Mind's I IMO! Clearly the best
melodic deathmetal vocalist ever! The guitar work is
superb, amazing sweet harmonic riffing have been woven
into the songs and of course stunning soloing once again.
The drumming is as technical and vicious as ever, just
listen to the new build! Yes they did it again,
created something new yet maintaining the DT sound wich
we all love them for. These guys get it! It's ok to change
your sound but you also have to remember your roots and
stay true to your sound and that's exactly what they did.
They took stuff from all their past work put it into a
blender turned up the speed a few notches and introduced
some fantastic new keyboard stuff.It might take a few more
spins as say Damage Done (wich was a very cool cd but a bit
too accessible) but once this cd has grown on you your
hooked and it won't let go.
Besides the cd's that are harder to get into are usually the best in the end.
