Book Description

3 and up
In elementary schools across the country, teachers are expected to provide at least five minutes of character education each day. This book makes it easy to meet that requirement in a meaningful way. It includes 180 character vignettes—five for each of the 36 weeks in the school year—grouped by trait. Each features kids in real-life situations making decisions that reflect their character. Each is short enough to be read aloud; all can be used as starting points for discussion, to support an existing character education program, or as the basis for an independent program. An excellent tool for the classroom or the character-conscious home.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good intentions... but need more., August 23, 2007

I was very excited to order this book. I couldn't wait to read stories to my 5 and 7-year old that focused on character traits. Problem is, the stories are way too short. Most are 1/2 - 3/4 of one page. Both children complained that the stories are not long enough. Honestly, I would be better off looking for picture books at the library that focus on one character trait, but have a more involved story that the children really get into. Great intentions, but falls short.

5.0 out of 5 stars See for yourself, October 17, 2007
This review is from: Character Building Day by Day: 180 Quick Read-Alouds for Elementary School and Home (Paperback)
I am very impressed with this book. It not only gives you very important character building stories, it also gives you a story for every single day of the typical school year. My students enjoy hearing the stories and love sharing their own stories with their classmates. I strongly recommend this book to parents and other teachers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Character Building, July 18, 2007
This review is from: Character Building Day by Day: 180 Quick Read-Alouds for Elementary School and Home (Paperback)
This book is just what I was looking for to jumpstart conversations about good character in my reading program, grades one through five. The stories are short, leaving plenty of time for discussion or written reflection.
