Excellent, but over-priced,

The first thing you'll likely experience when you buy these sheets is sublime pleasure - the design is gorgeous, each class has its own customized sheet, and the pages are very well-designed, making it very easy for you to find the information you need quickly during play. The next thing you'll feel (about 5 minutes later) is profound disappointment. Considering the tremendous bargain Wizards of the Coast gave us in the Player's Handbook, why did they feel the need to rob us blind ($9.95? ) for a tiny ream of paper? With the *extremely* limited number of sheets, you will find yourself making frequent and immediate trips to your nearest scanner or photocopier (with WotC's blessing, of course). Considering the ease with which the sheets are printed, however, they could have easily given us 3 times as many sheets for the price.Overall, however, I am extremely pleased with the new layout. The design flows logically, and allows you to quickly create a character; the sheets are made of a high-quality paper that erases easily (but woe unto you who must use photocopies!). With their comprehensive details, logical format, and impressive completeness, they actually remind me of the well-regarded Permanent Character Record Folder of days gone by (TSR, 1980-81). My final verdict is a mixed one. If money is not an object, you will be thrilled with these high-quality records; they will save you time and quickly make themselves indispensable. But if you were expecting a bargain (logically, since the PHB is one, hands down), you may well want to hook up your printer and use the PHB CD-ROM character generator instead.

I would give the product five stars but I have a few items to mention. Other than the mentions that will follow, I found the sheets to be an excellent tool for keeping track of the character and complicated NPCs. There is even a sheet for animal companions/familiars with space on the back for detailing complicated magical items. There is a seperate sheet, front and back, for each of the character classes. Then there are spell sheets with spell listings for each of the spell casting classes. Here's the first place that the sheets run afoul of the real world. A lot of time and money has been spent on creating new spells for all the classes and 3E now looks like a small list compared to the supplements that are available in so many places. A player can pencil her favorite extra spells in, but then she might wind up with a cluttered sheet anyway. If you are playing strictly by the books however, it is excellent. There is a little bit of this involved in the PC sheets as well. Players will want to bring in special classes. There is a generic PC sheet included but it won't be as nice as the customized sheets for say, a cleric, which includes the Turning Undead table. Again, those who follow the rule book closely will find this accessory indespensible. Do you want nitpicking? The barbarian sheet indicates that the character gets a d8 for hitpoints when the player handbook clearly indicates the barbarian gets d12. Small thing to pick on, but it makes one wonder if there aren't one or two more missed typos. Even if you are into making your own character sheets by pencil or laser printer, you would do well to consider these sheets as reference for your own layout. The inside cover is a detailed process for building your character. One more plus, the back cover has one of my favorite new artwork pieces from 3E. It is a female Halfling Rogue. I'll admit that I am biased, I like halflings and this one is a great representation of the new and improved halfling race.I am quite glad to have purchased this item.

Save your money,

There are a couple of problems with these sheets. First, you are paying $10 for 15 sheets of paper. There is one sheet per character class, which means you'll be making lots of copies. Two, they are just too small. The information is crammed into these sheets, so prepare to write small. There are some better options. One, just photocopy the sheet that comes with the PHB. Two, use the character generator CD-ROM that comes with the PHB. Three, download one off the internet. Four, create your own sheets. All of these options are, for all intents and purposes, free. I found a much better sheet online that has a lot more room to write things, so I don't have to squint to see what I wrote. I will say that the layout of the sheets is actually good, but there just isn't space. I would recommend not getting these sheets.

Ahhh, the usual WotC way to force you into buying sheets,
This review is from: Character Sheets (Dungeons & Dragons Accessory) (Paperback)
Well, I'm sure most of you figured out how Wizards almost forces you into buying their character sheets. Right? You see, they make the sheet thats in the Player's Guide sooooo close to the binding that it's almost impossible to photocopy perfectly. Well, its easy to copy here. But for the product at hand (and not the trick) these sheets are rather useful. I myself don't use them (instead I printed out a 7-page awesome character sheet, even though I am a player for 3% of my time playing D&D), but when I got my players some for christmas....wooo hoo. They made so many photocopies of it, that we almost were using a new one for every level they advanced! These sheets are basically the ones in the Player's Guide, but for some reason they seem more...clean when photocopied. I loved updating these sheets, rather than having to update it on computer (like we did before). Just to let you know, I keep my player's sheet and update them throughout the game, because that's a useful way for me to play. The players love not having to gawk at their amazingly low life :-) Overall- Get these if you want nice, smooth photocopies of the character sheets, or are just going to use these. They are very good.

The character sheet accessory is only worth the purchase if you (like me) could not get a good photocopy of the character sheet provided in the PH. The different class character sheets are really not specific to classes, expect for the fact the class name is printed in the class space, and cross-class skills are marked out for you. This is fine if you want to keep your Half-Orc Barbarian single-class, but what happens when you want to multi-class him? The only character sheet I photocopied for use in my own campaign was the generic one. 10 bucks for one lousy good photocopy-able sheet. This supplement could've included a lot more than a familiar sheet and spell-planning sheets, and should've included a player's screen (since the cardboard packaging it came in would fit the bill). If someone else you know has already bought this (but don't ask me), get some copies off of them and skip this product. It's just not necessary to the game, and the cost is really too much for this kind of product. Five bucks would've been more in range.

Moderately useful.,

Alright,Don't get me wrong, especially with Wizards of the Coast's (WotC) generosity of including the Character Generator CD-ROM with their Player's Handbook, but this character sheet accessory could have been much more then it is currently. It does give you an excellent range; one, two-sided sheet for each class, one for multi-class, as well as spell inventory sheets for arcane and faith using classes (Wizards, Cleric, et al.); but with only one copy of each sheet it is obvious that you're going to have to make trips, various and many, to your local copy shop and make many copies of these sheets. I would have given this a probable two stars, but the design and layout alone deserve three stars; or more; because of the amount of design effort it took to make a valuable resources as the charatcer both useful and detail it has to show you the new system and how all the changes work into the formatting of a character. Overall a good idea with moderate implimentation, which should have, could have, been so much more. The class sheet concept, an excellent idea, hasn't been fully seen in a D&D character sheet product since the 1st Edition, parchment sheets of the early to mid 80's; these sheets had the Oriental Adventure Classes in the product as well.

For those of us that have been around a while, being able to photocopy these sheets is one of the best features. For those just beginning D&D, these sheets will help you organize your characters and spells. For those who are just starting 3rd edition, these sheets show you how to effectively track every bonus (the d20 system is all about bonuses), something that previous editions didn't have. There are things that I'd change, but I knew there would be. Buying the character sheets gives me time to figure out just what I will change when I design my own.One more important advantage these sheets give to DMs. If you have a NEW player, this product will save you a lot of time in creating a charecter for him or her, especially if he or she is playing a spellcaster. (A little white-out will fix the Barbarian sheet before you photocopy it)

High Price, Just Barely Worth It,
By Grissium "The Gnome" (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Character Sheets (Dungeons & Dragons Accessory) (Paperback)
With the character sheets for D&D3E, you are buying about 16 sheets of paper. There is a sheet for each class, all of which are highly useful. For example, the Fighter Character Sheet, has all the skills unavauable to Fighters removed from the Sheet. All the cross-class skills have a nice X through them, so you know what you have to pay more for. All the bonus feats you can get nicely listed on the back (Sadly no spaces for other feats are found). All in all good design. Another nice set of sheets are the spell sheets. Which are, in essence, the spell lists for every spell casting class. The spell lists are layed out with spells divided up into approprate level. Nice thing to have, so you don't have to make your own. Also are a character sheet that is just "standard" or not specialized for a class, a sheet for magic items carried, and a sheet for animal companions. The only problems iare the high price... So if you like making nice home-brewed sheets this is not useful. Also the barbarian sheet has a typo, saying they earn a D8 hit die (Really a D12). But I am lazy, and since all the sheets say you can photo-copy them, I will hopefully never have to make one of those homebrewed character sheets.

These PC sheets have too much black in them, the boxes are too small, and better sheets can be found for free on the internet constructed by players who care. Too black, they don't copy well. I have found some excellent PC sheets out there w/ nice big boxes to write in and I 'save as' and then type my PC info in (anything that doesn't change) w/ page #s of where I can find the appropriate rule. They could have referened page #s on there sheets it would have helped all of us learning this new version.

If you are a D&D player who plans on adventuring in 3rd edition this is a definite pick-up. Inside are several character sheets 1 for each class and 1 for Multi classed, along with the authority to photocopy them as needed for personal use. These sheets will save you alot of time and trouble, each lists every skill on the sheets whether you character has that skill or not he is going to need a majority of them because a new rule in the game allows you to use certain skills even if you didn't put points into them. D&Ders pick these up they will save you a lot of heartache.
