Book Description

This hands-on reference offers a practical introduction to pumps and provides the tools necessary to select, size, operate, and maintain pumps properly. It highlights the interrelatedness of pump engineering from system and piping design to installation and startup.

This updated second edition expands on many subjects introduced in the first edition and also provides new in-depth discussion of pump couplings, o-rings, motors, variable frequency drives, pump life-cycle cost, corrosion, and pump minimum flow.

Written by an acclaimed expert in the field, Pump Characteristics and Applications, Second Edition is an invaluable day-to-day reference for mechanical, civil, chemical, industrial, design, plant, project, and systems engineers; engineering supervisors; maintenance technicians; and plant operators. It is also an excellent text for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in departments of mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or engineering technology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent desk reference January 8, 1998
An excellent reference book which should be in any engineers library. Author has put together a well thought out book which is easy to read and which covers a tremendous amount of material. This book could serve as a "text book" allowing a person to gain a familiarity with pumps in an organized manner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Pump Handbook October 1, 2009
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
This is an excellent book for anyone involved in specifying pumps. It presents a very clear description of evaluating pump curves and creating system curves. It is also extremely helpful in describing electrical components associated with pump selection; and providing guidance in decreasing energy costs associated with pump usage (most notably the use of variable frequency drives). Important descriptions to me were on ODP and TEFC pumps, stuffing boxes and mechanical seals (including tandem mechanical seals), power factor penalty, vertical turbine pumps, the meaning of "soft start"; as well as other information.

Highly recommended.
