I thought that this was a wonderful resource for teaching beginning sounds and uses repetition to reinforce letter recognition/remediate the w phoneme. Children enjoyed producing the "W" sound and listening as they repeated the words that began with "w". It was a great assessment tool for recognizing the letter "w" and putting it into long term memory. I would like to have an entire set. The set could be used to teach phonemic awareness. As students learn the sounds and recognize the letters, it would ease the transition of teaching the components on the phomene ladder. After mastering phonemic awareness, the children would be productive with vocabulary - being able to spell phonetically or able to learn the correct spelling using the dictionary because they know the phonics. This is in turn would greatly assist with their comprehension as they read. They would be more apt to use the dictionary for comprehension, semantics, and understanding the words without changing, mispronouncing, or avoiding the word entirely. This confidence in reading would lead to fluency. Teacher meeting state standards for being highly effective could be reached because they would have turned their objectives into learning goals and the test scores would exceed expectations. They would ultimately observe that their students had mastered what was being taught on a greater percentile and that students are not being taught on the lowest level of Bloom's Taxonomy - rote memorization. Their behavioral issues would decline because children's self esteem and confidence would soar. Children would be more apt to complete homework and participate in class through prepapartion thus demonstrating respect for their teacher. They would be learning to set goals and develop the virtues of planning, organization,and perseverance.
