2.0 out of 5 stars For $400 it should work better
For the money, this grill should be sturdier and the flames should be even. I find the knobs to be somewhat rickety. My biggest complaint is the uneven burners. Mine do not burn as high in the front as the rear. In fact, you can get rare in the front and well done in the rear. Charbroil mentions this on their website as normal, but if you ask me it is a manufacturing...

4.0 out of 5 stars A somewhat different opinion, August 20, 2004

This is partly in response to the previous reviewer...

I own the Thermos version of this grill, which other than the brand is otherwise exactly the same.

Having owned mine since late June, I've used the grill about six times. It has been absolutely a pleasure to use. Some times I wish for a larger cooking area, but those are the times when I am hosting a large cookout and trying to feed 10+ people at the same time. At this price range and at this quality level, this is about as big a grill as you are going to find.

The grill is *HEAVY* but very easy to put together. Other than lifting the grill body onto the stand, everything else is a one-person job. Just follow the well written instructions and it should go together in half an hour or less.

The construction does cut some corners, but not where it really matters. for example, the two lower doors on my grill are a little warped. At first I was a bit bummed that the grill is not entirely stainless, but I've actually found the painted non-stainless surfaces to be easier to clean. The brushed stainless steel parts have yet to rust.

About leaving this grill out-doors: Out-doors doesn't mean you leave it in the elements. They make grill covers for a reason. Even stainless steel will not last if you don't at least keep the elements from it. Use common sense, trow a cover or just a plastic tarp over the grill and it will last for years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Grill.. GREAT customer service, September 17, 2004

I bought this grill on clearance at a local sporting goods store. When I opened the grill, the stainless steel "top" was dented considerably. I called CharBroil and they immediately sent me a whole new lid, no questions asked. They didn't even ask for a serial number, receipt or the like. It's customer service like this that will make me a customer for life.

The grill was simple to assemble, I was able to do it on my own. The top of the unit is heavy, but not totally unmanageable for one person.

I cooked enough chicken for 10 people the first time I used it. It cooked every piece evenly. It was delicious.

I am very happy with my purchase, and you will be too if you buy this item.

I just got the stainless steel model of this grill and it works great. No problem with rust or rain water in the grease cup AS LONG AS YOU KEEP IT COVERED WITH A GRILL COVER when its not in use....common sense. Its the perfect size for me and my wife.

Mine do not burn as high in the front as the rear. In fact, you can get rare in the front and well done in the rear. Charbroil mentions this on their website as normal, but if you ask me it is a manufacturing defect and undesireable. I am actually considering selling it and purchasing a brand that consumer reports rated higher.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good grill, but a few problems, July 1, 2004

I bought this grill about 6 weeks ago at a local home improvement store. My grill is the all-stainless steel model, although it has the exact same model number - 463243904.

I really liked this grill at first, but found that it is not designed to be left outdoors. The instructions say you can't use it indoors either. After the first rainstorm, the fancy battery operated electronic ignition quit working. I opened the apparently weatherproof battery compartment and found it was full of water. I let it dry out for a week, retightened and rechecked everything, but had the same problem after the next rainstorm.

I called CharBroil and they told me, "Oh.... You can't expect your grill to work if you leave it outside in the rain!" Glad I bought an all-stainless steel grill! By the way, a lot of the rivets and screws holding the grill together are rusting - after only 6 weeks of use.

Instead of the older style gas burner under briquettes, this grill has the burner directly under the cooking surface. It requires less preheating, but I think I liked cooking over briquettes better. This grill uses a drip pan that drains into a grease cup. The grease cup fills up with water when it rains. The drip pan must be cleaned a lot more often than I would like. My old grill didn't use a drip pan. All the grease just burned off and added to the char broiled flavor.

I would probably not buy this grill again. I looked at a lot of grills before I made my purchase. I really didn't like the apparent durability of any of them. The grill I bought did not live up to my expectations. I figure that if I am going to be dissatisfied, I can be dissatisfied for a lot less money!

5.0 out of 5 stars That's a magnificent grill, June 4, 2006
This review is from: Charbroil Designer Series 463243904 40,000 BTU Stainless Steel Grill with Sideburner (Lawn & Patio)
It's very easy to compose this product. The material parts of this grill is very durable. Using this grill, it is very reliable and I can plan my cooking time of BBQ and else very accurately. I feel like it makes me improve my cooking skills like Chef's in the five star restaurants.

Live like a king with great food in Summer!!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't Buy Char-Broil Products, May 18, 2006
This review is from: Charbroil Designer Series 463243904 40,000 BTU Stainless Steel Grill with Sideburner (Lawn & Patio)
I've had the regulator assembly on my Char-Broil grill fail twice. The company refuses to warrant this part of the product. The regulator is the "heart" of the grill. The regulator, hoses and valves that go from the cannister to the burners is all one assembly. They charged me over $100 to replace it the first time and it failed again within 9 months. Now, they have taken all their support telephone numbers off line. If you buy one of their products, there is no way to contact a human being. Their web site will not let you send an email, nor will it reveal a telephone number. This company is a total rip off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Mans BBQ, January 19, 2008
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Charbroil Designer Series 463243904 40,000 BTU Stainless Steel Grill with Sideburner (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased this Charbroil BBQ over 3 years ago. You can tell I realy like filling these review things out :-). Anyway- I also bought the rotissery attachment and it works great. I gave this product a 4 STAR rating because the left hand door hindge pin fell inside the SEALED DOOR!%!@$% Have you ever tried retreving a very important part in a welded together door "NOT FUN" Don't even try. So I was very careful when I would open the door to turn on the gas valve..holding the door upright in my left hand while using my right hand to turn on or off the gas valve. Then shoving the door back in place so the magnetic clip would hold the door closed. This worked fine for a year or so, then when BBQ-ing at night I turned the BBQ just a little to have better lighting and then it happened! BANG / BOOM / CRASH..there went the door. I now have a BBQ with a removable door, just grab the handle and off it comes. I did check and the original pin hindge is still stuck inside my removable door. Other than that it cooks the best darn burgers/Steaks/Rib Racks/Chickens whole or cut-up and could win any BBQ contest...as long as they don't disqualify you for a falling off door.
