This review is from: Charcoal (Audio CD)
originally released in 1996 this is the first album by the group SARGE from chicago, ill. (forget the smashing pumkins these were the real thing), (latter elizabeth elmore would form a group called THE REPUTATION). Known for guitar hooks that would make Husker Du blush and proudly so, and the most personal/disturbing/true to life lyrics this side of sapho and jawbreaker. This sometimes group of misfits continued on til 2000. Untimely disbanding when the drumer had personal issues. The 3 albums they left behind are a tribute to a time period of music that no longer exists. That no one "gets" this music now is tragic. It was influential for its time, and informative now- more bands are going back to the 80's for influence when they hit the 90's sarge will surge back to pop status again.... If there is any justice. I don't really think it'll happen. I just think if everyone in america heard this album they'd understand post nirvana punk/emo/indy/whatever u wanna call those people who arent famous but should be.
