Book Description

April 1999
CHARDONNAY presents a lush, detailed portrait of this most popular of all grape varieties. Award-winning photographer Charles O'Rear takes his camera to the most picturesque Chardonnay-growing regions of the world and documents their people and unique landscapes. The story of Chardonnay unfolds in an absorbing photographic essay, from dew-covered grapes hanging on the vine to the ultimate moment when the winemaker pours the first drop of delicious pale gold wine into the glass. Ranging from the verdant, rolling hills of California's Napa Valley to the illustrious chateaus of Burgundy, this book captures the poetry and history of Chardonnay, the world's favorite white wine. Charles O'Rear is an award-winning photographer who is known for his work for National Geographic. Among his books of photographs is the best-selling Napa Valley. Margrit Biever Mondavi and her husband, Robert, own the Robert Mondavi Winery, the most recognized and purchased wine label in the United States.

2.0 out of 5 stars Glorious Vine, Glorious Color, March 6, 2002

This review is from: Chardonnay: Photographs from Around the World (Hardcover)
Wine grapes and wine-making are splendid subjects for the photographer, full of colors and textures, people and things that seem to cry out for sensitive treatment. Most wine books are devoted to text, but not this one. It's almost all pictures, and very handsome ones at that. Large in format and well printed, this is a companion book to "Cabernet," by the same photographer. (See my review of that book for more details.)
