I got what you paid for,
This review is from: Rapid Car Charger + Home Travel Charger + SYnc Transfer USB Data Cable for Verizon Motorola Droid A855 Cell Phone (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I tested this kit on the Motorola Droid and here are my thoughts:
- Home charger: doesn't work. The phone started freaking out like buttons were being pressed very fast. I believe it doesn't work because this charger is only 500mA and the stock charger is 850mA. - USB data cable: works but it's the same size as the stock cable. If you want a longer cable to plug on the stock charger, look elsewhere. - Car charger: seems to be working but the cable is very thin compared to the others. I can't tell what is the current so I don't think I will use it.

The plug in charger makes the phone freak out like the previous reviewer said... as if ghosts are constantly tapping on the screen opening and closing things all crazily. This is not what you want to see. The output voltage on the thing says 4.5V to 9.5V. The original Motorola charger doesn't give a range, it claims to output 5.1V, exactly 5.1V. I think that the fact that this charger has more than a factor of two error in the output voltage is a bit scary, and probably the reason that it makes the phone freak out. To be fair, the price is ridiculously low and who knew it wouldn't work. I wouldn't expect them to have tested it for this price, but I've learned my lesson. The USB cable is really really short, and I don't trust the car charger after the wall charger experience. However even if only one of the three things that came in this kit is usable, that's still not too bad for the price. Also, from comparing to the picture, and some other reviewers' descriptions, it kind of seems like everyone gets something different in the mail, so maybe it's worth the gamble. You could get lucky.

I've had good luck with cheap, generic chargers in the past, and was hoping this one would fit that bill for my new Motorola Droid. I was sadly let down, as each of the three cables had its own issue.
Home Charger - Phone completely freaks out when its plugged in. Don't bother trying to use it - the phone will register all kinds of presses that you never made. USB Cable - If you just plug it in and let it sit, this will work ok - but if you attempt to use the phone, it will crash - a lot. Hard resets required. Car Charger - "Charger" is not the correct term. More like "car battery drain slower." It will not charge the battery at all - it will slightly slow down the drain of having the phone on, but that's it. I don't know if this product works for other devices, but for the Droid, don't waste your time. The price might tempt you to try it, but you'll be left disappointed and purchasing other chargers like I did.

I was wary of these products at these prices, but thought it might be worth the risk. When I plugged in the wall charger, the phone started to freak out. It started doing all sorts of crazy things, including DOWNLOADING pay-for APPS! I unplugged it and verified no damage to the phone and no apps installed and decided to try it with the phone turned off. It still freaked out, but not as badly. Finally, I powered the phone off completely and connected the charger. This seemed to work better. I only bought these chargers as emergency backups for the OEM charger and cable and if used cautiously, I think they might fit the bill.
I tried the USB cable as a charger only, did not try to transfer data, and it worked fine. Obviously, since it's spaghetti thin, this also fits the "emergency use only" category. I haven't tried the car charger yet. Hopefully never have to. I'm surprised Amazon.com allows this kind of crap to be sold on their website. This is more of what you'd expect from an auction site. Bottom line, first time you use these items, monitor your phone very closely!

This looked like a great combination for my Motorola Droid. The car charger seems to work as does the mini-USB cable. Unfortunately, the AC adapter does not work properly. Plugging it in causes the phone to act like I am toching the screen in random ways. I did not realize the problem at first and it sent a jibberish text message to my daughter while I was asleep. Not good.

I plugged the charger into my wall outlet and zap, a blue lightning bolt, a whiff of ozone, and the charger was done. I took the rest of the combo pack and threw it directly into the trash. Thank God I was smart enough to plug it into the wall first before plugging it into my phone. It might have destroyed my Droid. This thing is garbage. Use at your own risk!!! The price is too low and it seems too good to be true. It is.

I knew I was taking a chance on buying low priced micro-usb chargers for my Droid phone. The data cable/charger made the screen freak out and could not use the touch screen at all. It did charge the phone, but I threw it away because the voltage instability could damage the phone. Also, it would not work as a data cable. The same thing with the wall charger - major voltage instability. Only using to charge bluetooth headset. I only use the car charger, it has no issues with voltages and have been using it almost daily to keep my phone charged on my 2 hour daily commute, while using GPS, phone and music player.

The two chargers worked just fine but the data cable did not fit my Droid--is not micro-USB compatible. Thus, this is not what it was advertised. The wall charger does work, yet is slow. With my original Motorola charger/data cable, it took 2-hrs to charge when my phone was totally depleted. This wall charger takes twice as long--just remember to block out the time.

THIS WILL SCREW UP YOUR DROID'S BATTERY!,
This review is from: Rapid Car Charger + Home Travel Charger + SYnc Transfer USB Data Cable for Verizon Motorola Droid A855 Cell Phone (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Man, I was psyched to get these three chargers on the cheap, because I lost my old one and was about to go on a roadtrip.
It *looks* like it's working, as the droid doesn't give any messages like "this is the incorrect charger for this phone" like some phones have in the past when I plug in a charger that isn't designed for it. Looks like it's charging. Then one day into the roadtrip, it totally killed my battery. Same thing goes for the wall charger. Makes it so that when your droid is plugged in, it will keep resetting with the little Motorola logo appearing and dissapearing, like it's trying to start up but fighting a loosing battle where there just isn't enough juice to sustain the phone, let alone actually charge the thing. Don't buy this unless you want a lame hassle and problems with your phone. |
