Is this hub able to work at all without the power supply? If i only need to use 1 or 2 of the ports? Nov 17, 2014
Definitely no! Without power it's totally dead - like a stone! You must connect it to power and then you can expect it to work - if there is no anything other wrong. If you don't want to use power, you can check another model - http://www.amazon.com/Anker%C2%AE-4-Port-Portable-Aluminum-2-Foot/dp/B00IJ331WY/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1416424283&sr=8-2&keywords=anker+usb+3.0+hub. It has only 4 ports and cannot charge devices, but it's more compact and doesn't power connection at all.
Does this unit also plug in directly to an electrical outlet (so it can act as a charging "hub")? Dec 10, 2013
Yes, it has an AC plug so all the USB jacks can support devices that require more juice (such as external dock USB hard drives) and the last slot (7th) can also be used as a 1.2 A dedicated charger for standard USB charging. Note: Apple products such as the iPad uses a higher charging requirement and the 9 Port Anker unit has a 10th dedicated 2.1A port for this.
Have heard comments that this unit cannot be used to charge iPhone and other devices that require DC power (e.g. Jambox). Anyone had this experience? Dec 14, 2014
It definitely can't power an apple DVD drive. The company blames apple and that seems to be right. A tech at Other World Computing, who have been contracted by apple to develop drives, told me that Apple elected to not follow the standard IECC spec for USB3 and instead went off and wrote their own driver. This is also why certain Bus powered HDs perform poorly
Does this work with Windows 8? Dec 2, 2013
The USB 2 and 3 specs are international standards. So yes, it will work with windows 8. The more important question is whether your computer has USB 3 ports or just USB 2. If it does not have USB 3 this will still work but you will be paying for speed that you cannot use. Check your computers specifications by looking up the model number on the vendors website, if you do not know for certain. Buy a USB hub (2.0 or 3.0) based on that.
Does this have mounting options on the back if you wanted to mount to a wall or side of a desk? Feb 27, 2014
Hey Jim, My version didn't have a mounting option. When I reviewed it, this was one of the suggestions I made. I have put some double sided tape on it and it has been holding up pretty well.
Will it also work without being connected to the power supply? for example for a couple usb drives, but having the option to plug in the power for HD May 17, 2014
It doesn't work without the power being supplied by the plug in transformer.
What type of an AC connection does this come with? A Wall wart or standard plug with the transformer inline⦠Nov 20, 2014
4" long wall wart.
I have 5 photo cameras which I need to download simultaneously with data of 32GB. What is transfer rate and behaviour of hub (simultanous?) Oct 30, 2014
What interface do the cameras have? Are they newer with usb3 or are they usb2? I could test with a couple dslrs at once for you. However from my experience transfers directly from the camera are slower than a good usb3 card reader.
