4.0 out of 5 stars great CD, improvised Vangelis
The tracks featured in the CD are all Vangelis compositions..the music has NOT been arranged by Vangelis and is performed by someone else. There are some interesting improvisations by the performers and in fact I like the version of "Conquest of Paradise" in this CD better. If you are a true Vangelis devotee, you may find some of the changes jarring. But, I...

2.0 out of 5 stars Vangelis is the composer here - NOT the performer
The claims in other reviews here that this is the original soundtrack album, are utterly false. This is a compilation of music composed by Vangelis, but performed by unknowns - probably session musicians working for scale.

Besides a few tracks from Chariots of Fire, the rest of the CD is a "best-of" compilation, with tracks from Antarctica, Opera Sauvage, and...

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the better Vangelis tributes..., November 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Chariots Of Fire: The Music Of Vangelis (Compilation) (Audio CD)
I bought this album knowing that it was one of the tributes based on his music and not actually performed by Vangelis. Very Nice! The simulation of his sounds - the CS-80 keyboard that he made so famous, and the nice ringing modulated sounds, especially on the 1492 and Jon and Vangelis material - are incredibly agile. Good for anyone who wants to hear variations on his themes!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this CD!! It is not Vangelis!!!, June 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Chariots Of Fire: The Music Of Vangelis (Compilation) (Audio CD)
If you're wondering why this CD is so cheap, the answer is that it is rubbish!! These tracks are not from the orginal recordings produced by Vangelis himself. They are played by what sounds like an untalented 10 year old plinking out the tunes on a cheap keyboard. The result is so bad that the CD doesn't deserve to bare Vangelis' name! This CD is an utter insult to one of the most brilliant composers of all time and should be avoided at all costs!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrid tribute album mix-up, June 23, 2004

The album with the Catalog number #58438 is a horrid tribute album - just listen to the samples if you want to hear awful music. Unfortunately because of a horrible Amazon mix-up, reviews for this album have been mixed in with reviews for #800020 and #622 (which are just slightly different versions of the Vangelis original)so John Buie's spotlight review is incorrect. Fortunately this tribute album is no longer available at Amazon, but don't spend $36 for it scond-hand
