Amazon.com Review

Look out L-A-N-G-U-A-G-E poets, Beats, and bad-boy= comedians. Bukowski was running the show long before you. He's the guy you either love to love or love to hate. Big-mouthed, bold and brassy as always, Bukowski lets loose in this eclectic collection of letters, poems and drawings. An excellent addition to his poetry, Bukowski's letters depict a male heart that looks like it's encased in black leather. Look again; it's red-blooded, warm and blatantly honest.

About the Author

Charles Bukowsk is one of America's best-known contemporary writers of poetry and prose, and, many would claim, its most influential and imitated poet. He was born in 1920 in Andernach, Germany, to an American soldier father and a German mother, and brought to the United States at the age of three. He was raised in Los Angeles and lived there for fifty years. He published his first story in 1944 when he was twenty-four and began writing poetry at the age of thirty-five. He died in San Pedro, California, on March 9, 1994, at the age of seventy-three, shortly after completing his last novel, Pulp.

To be honest, I still haven't finished this book. I keep it next to my bed for when I feel most alone. Try to keep the amounts I do read to a bare minimum because I never want it to end. This collection of letters captures so many sides of Buk: his business side, his harsh side; but also a great deal of his sensitive, sad, depressive-but-loving side, that is refreshing to see in any man, let alone one with such a weathered face. I just can't help but Love him.

I just discovered Bukowski after watching and owning "BAR FLY" and "FACTOTUM" on DVD, written by him and made into films. I have 12 of his books and enjoy them all. They are like emails written to someone and they were before computers became popular.

Yes you too can learn even more about your friend and mine, C. Bukowski, by reading these letters. Man this guy can really write because even his letters make good reading.
